Chapter 20
Chapter 20
"Yes... Yes, sir," the drunken man stammered.
"Then apologize to her," Lenny said coldly.
"I... I'm sorry... I had too much to drink and went crazy. I thought you were my ex-girlfriend. I'm really
sorry."
"It's fine," Scarlet replied softly, braced her hands against the wall, and climbed to her feet.
Her knees were in so much pain that she couldn't stand firm by herself. Moments after she managed to
get up, she fell down again.
Looking at his frail-looking ex-wife, Lenny didn't waste time overthinking. He rushed over to her and
held her in his arms.
He felt her soft, petite body against his and smelled a faint fragrance coming off of her. It wasn't
perfume but a special scent that wafted off of her skin. It was refreshing, and it rang the bells of
familiarity in his head.
Before he could place the scent in his mind, Scarlet struggled in his arms like a frightened bird.
He didn't like that she tried to break out of his embrace. He frowned and said coldly, "If you don't want
to fall down again, then stop flailing around."
Hearing this, Scarlet immediately stopped what she was doing. She didn't mind falling down, but what if
the baby was hurt?
At the thought of the baby, she held back her impulse to struggle, but she felt uneasy in his arms.
Since she found out that she was pregnant with Lenny's child, she had been very careful. She didn't
even dare to look him in the eye because she was afraid that he would see her guilt in her face.
"Can you walk?" Lenny asked.
"Yes, I can."
Scarlet tried to take a few steps, but her body still swayed slightly. Seeing this, Lenny picked her up
and carried her in his arms.
Caught off guard, she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.
Lenny was stunned for a moment but soon calmed down.
Scarlet was too thin, as if the Foster family hadn't given her anything to eat the entire time she was
living under their roof. Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
She was as light as a feather in his arms.
When he took her out of the restroom area, his business partner immediately rushed over to him. He
was startled to see Lenny carrying a woman.
"Mr. Foster, is this..."
"We can talk business next time. I have to go now."
"It's okay, Lenny. I can take a taxi home," Scarlet said.
"No. I'm going to give you a ride."
He wasn't about to start a negotiation with her. He was taking her home whether she liked it or not. He
would be worried if she went home by herself.
He carried her to his car and attempted to take her to the hospital first, but she steadfastly refused. She
just insisted on buying some healing ointments.
With that, he had no choice but to park the car in front of a pharmacy and buy an ointment, a bottle of
disinfectant, and the like.
Lenny took the ointment out of the bag and popped the lid. When he was about to apply the ointment
on Scarlet, she reached out and stopped him.
"I can do it myself. Thank you."
He was silent for a moment and then handed her the ointment.
She applied the ointment on her wounds, wincing in pain from time to time, but she didn't utter a word.
After she was done applying the ointment, her eyes turned red, but she didn't shed a tear.
"Thank you so much for helping me today." Scarlet spoke sincerely.
"It's my pleasure," Lenny replied. "Let me drive you, okay?"
"Okay."
He drove to the office building where she was doing her internship.
"Let me walk you upstairs."
"No, thanks. My colleagues will see you. You're my ex-husband. Let's not give them a reason to talk
about us," Scarlet said quickly.
"Very well. Be careful then."
When she was about to open the door and get out of the car, Scarlet suddenly thought about the
question that she'd been dying to ask Lenny.
"Lenny... Will you let someone you don't love give birth to your child?" she asked with a guilty
conscience.
"No."
Up to now, he only had one woman, Rosaline. Such an assumption was meaningless, and he wouldn't
let such a thing happen.
"But what if..."
"There are no ifs. The answer will still be no."
Lenny's attitude was resolute, and he didn't allow Scarlet to offer qualifying scenarios, which
disappointed her a lot.
Scarlet didn't go on asking. Whatever her next questions were, they would yield the same straight
answer from Lenny.
It was clear that Lenny wouldn't want her to give birth to their baby, so her decision to not tell him about
her pregnancy was sound.
She opened the door and got out of the car in a hurry. She didn't dare to look back. She ignored the
stinging pain in her knees and kept walking fast as if a monster was chasing after her.
Looking at Scarlet's receding figure, Lenny felt his heart flutter slightly. He didn't know why, but every
time he was with her, he always felt a little strange.
An indescribable feeling overwhelmed him. And he couldn't figure out the reason behind it.
