Chapter 691 Does It Feel Good to Be Mistrusted?
Before Jasper could speak, the woman jumped in and complained, "Your son bit my hand. You have to compensate me."
Chloe examined the bite marks on the woman's hand and then turned to Jasper. "Is that what happened?"
"She scolded me first. She also pinched me, so I bit her," Jasper said truthfully.
"Nonsense! This child only knows how to lie. Why would I, an adult, hit him?" the woman vehemently denied. Pulling her daughter close, she asked, "Did you see me scold him?"
The little girl, with her mother fiercely winking at her, said softly, "Mommy didn't hit him or scold him."
Jasper could not believe that his classmate would sell him out.
The woman, having achieved her goal, smugly extended her hand and demanded, "You heard her. Compensate me."
Chloe stood her ground and pointed toward the gas station's surveillance camera. "I'm willing to compensate you, but first, let's review the surveillance footage together. If your account matches what actually happened, I'll compensate accordingly."
The woman's face changed. She pulled her daughter’s hand and started walking away. "If you don't want to compensate me, then don't. What a pretender."
Chloe rolled her eyes at the woman's theatrics, then turned to reassure Jasper with a comforting look. "Stay here. I'll get the surveillance footage just in case she causes more trouble."
Fifteen minutes later, Chloe sent the surveillance video to Jasper. Staring at the phone, he murmured to himself, "You believe in me more than her."
Every time something happened, that woman would immediately put the blame on him and never give him a chance to explain. He had only known Chloe for a short time, yet she had stood up for him, and it felt nice.
Chloe raised an eyebrow teasingly. "You're too easily moved."
With his emotions exposed, Jasper displayed some uneasiness. He cleared his throat and turned to look out the window as if trying to conceal something.
Soon, Chloe arrived at the villa. After watching Jasper go inside, she turned the car around to leave as someone in a red car made their move. They suddenly accelerated and headed for the rear of Chloe’s car. Having long noticed the car, she quickly swerved to avoid the collision. Chloe refrained from getting out of her car and instead quickly grabbed her phone to photograph the red car's license plate. She then immediately made a call to report the incident to the authorities. As she explained the situation to the 911 dispatcher, a woman stumbled out of the red car. She glared in Chloe's direction and quickly disappeared from sight.
Chloe smiled. Something about that woman's figure reminded her of Xavia.

At 8 in the evening, Chloe stormed into Joseph's presence and slammed the photos she had taken onto the table. "Control Xavia and don't play with fire. You’ll end up harming yourself and others."
Joseph laced his fingers over his chest, adopting a superior posture, and replied, "I've checked the license plate number. That isn't Xavia's car."
"I know. It belongs to Megan, a good friend of Xavia's. Shouldn't you use your brains before showing bias?" Chloe felt exasperated, and her face filled with disdain.
Whether intentional or not, a smile tugged at Joseph's lips. "You expect me to believe you just because of a license plate?"
"Fine, forget the whole thing if you don't believe me," Chloe replied with a hint of frustration.
She had only wanted to warn Joseph about Xavia, concerned about her current state of mind and her ability to take care of Jasper properly. But if he was going to play dumb, there was no point in continuing the conversation.
As she stood up to leave, Joseph gripped her arm. His intense gaze bore into hers as he asked, "Does it feel good to be mistrusted by others?"
"Are you crazy?" Chloe snapped.
Wasting no time, Joseph presented a set of blueprints. "These are the floor plans of the hospital where the fire happened. There's a secret passage in the operating room where you were. Even the current hospital director is unaware of its existence. Care to guess how Noah managed to rescue you so timely?"
