Chapter 278 Simply Put, She’s My Wife
“It would be better for Ms. Chloe herself to inform me about this,” Noah said, his tone remaining confident and gentle.
Joseph sneered, his voice solemn. “Rather than seeking endorsements for promotion, I
suggest your company focuses on its own employees. No amount of promotion can erase the discerning eyes of the public. Character is synonymous with value. Since you operate in the jewelry industry, where the majority of customers are women, shouldn’t your employees show some respect toward women?”
Noah narrowed his eyes. “I don’t understand what you’re saying, Mr. Joseph.”
“If you don’t understand, you can go online and find the answers,” Joseph replied coldly. Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Due to the large number of employees at Fairlight, they could not fit everyone inside the dining hall, so the dinner was arranged to take place outside. The evening breeze blew gently, and the lights created a pleasant atmosphere.
When Joseph arrived, Chloe and the other employees had been waiting for more than ten minutes. His seat was at the front, and as he passed by a table, he overheard a group whispering among themselves, causing him to pause in his tracks.
“Did you hear that Sophia from Marketing got fired?”
“Who’s Sophia? I’ve never heard that name before.”
“She’s that beautiful girl who joined our office not long ago.”
“Oh, I see. What happened to her?”
“I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I heard that she was spreading rumors about Chloe and Mr. Joseph having an affair. That’s why she got fired.”
“It’s not a rumor. It’s true.”
A male voice suddenly interrupted their conversation. The group of chatters shivered and turned around in unison to see Joseph standing behind them. His hands were inside his pockets and he was looking down at them.
His face was impeccably sculpted, each feature carefully carved to perfection. Every angle and contour showcased his striking masculinity, exuding an aura that captivated all who beheld
him.
Without waiting for their reaction, he walked to the stage.
“I have an announcement to make. Fairlight is canceling the ‘no office romance’ policy and will be adopting an open management approach in this regard. Each department will decide on
such matters at their own discretion.”
A silence so profound settled over the venue that one could hear a pin drop. People took a moment to process what was happening. Joseph then gestured toward Chloe and called her up.
“You, come here.”
It was just a short distance, yet Chloe felt an unprecedented level of attention as she crossed it. Her palms grew sweaty as her nervousness mounted, yet her eyes sparkled like stars as they fixated
unwaveringly on the tall and handsome man before her, her cheeks blushing a rosy hue.
“What are you doing?” Chloe whispered to Joseph.
“Haven’t you guessed yet?” Joseph raised an eyebrow, his tone filled with amusement.
Chloe knew what he was going to do, but she felt too shy to say it aloud, so she simply shook her head with a bashful smile.
“You dummy,” Joseph remarked, his eyebrows raised in playful exasperation.
Chloe remained silent.
Meanwhile, Xavia stood in the distance, observing the scene from the shadows. On the stage, the handsome man and beautiful woman exuded unparalleled harmony that appeared to transcend any imperfections.
She clenched her fist tightly, her nails stabbing into her palm yet she did not feel the pain.
“Today, we have two pieces of good news,” Joseph announced, “First, Ms. Wendy from Marketing has successfully given birth to her son tonight. After working for many years and contributing greatly to the company’s profits, she’ll be promoted to a mid-level management position upon her return from maternity leave.
“Second, you may have heard some rumors about me and Chloe recently. First and foremost, she is my woman, but not in a transactional sense. Simply put, we are husband and wife.”
Chloe raised her head, tears welling up in her eyes as her heart bloomed like a flower. No woman would not yearn for such a sense of security.
