Chapter 56
Angel Leffman
"This is wrong. Everything's wrong! Fix that! I swear these people don't know how to do anything!"
"Angel," Harry called me.
"What do you want?! Can't you see that I'm busy?!"
I'm annoyed that he's bothering me when he knows that it bothers me.
"Let's go for a walk or go to your office."
""I'm busy!"
"Angel! For your sake and that of your employees, let's go out."
I took a breath and looked around to see the looks of annoyance and fear. I agreed and paused what I was doing to go with Harry. Once there, it finally dawned on me. "What do you think you're doing-yelling at the employees and throwing things? You're not going to solve anything with Sofia by doing this, Angel! You should talk to her." "Talk?! The woman is enjoying parties and drinks as we speak, while I'm here waiting like a fool trying to resolve our marriage!"
"Calm down, will you?! Maybe Amelia only told you that to bother you."
"It wasn't Amelia, it was Sofia!" I groaned, and he looked at me mockingly. "Do you think this is funny?"
"Angel, give her some space to think and let her anger go away."
"Space? Anger? Should I calm down when my wife is somewhere in the world dancing, drinking, enjoying life, and God knows with whom?!"
"Don't go down that path if you don't want to make things worse, Angel, and besides, you asked for it."
"Are you my friend or my enemy?"
"I am your friend, but I am also your confidant who will knock some sense into you. I told you that Sofia would get tired of your doubts and distrust one day and that you were going to lose her, but you didn't listen; now it's your turn to face the consequences."
"But she didn't even let me talk! She just left; she didn't open the door to her apartment, and when I went to look for her, where is she now? Dancing and drinking around!" Just thinking about it makes me angry.
"She's giving you a taste of your own medicine, man," Harry said while chuckling. "Don't look at me like that. We both know that women are not easy and submissive. What, did you expect her to wait for you with a cup of coffee just because you told her so? Even I will feel humiliated, and I'm not her!"
"I didn't stay for dinner. I went to look for my jacket and my keys. When I came back, she was already gone."
"Is she a fortune teller to know that? We are talking about Sofia here, an intelligent, proud, arrogant, cold person, and you made her angry."
"I want her to listen to me, to know that I love her, that I believe in her long before I saw what was in those folders, but Elisa ruined everything with Patricia. I didn't use the right words, and Sofia misunderstood everything."
"No, Angel, she misinterpreted nothing. You were with Elisa, you had dinner, you let her kiss you, and you said that you didn't believe in any of them. So no, she didn't misinterpret anything. Also, how many times haven't you gone on a trip without telling her and showed up at meetings or whenever you feel like it? And now you're annoyed she's doing the same thing, so let her calm down before you really lose her for real."
"That's what worries me that I lost her because I was an idiot. Because of my family's and Elisa's lies."
"Speaking of Elisa, you're going to have to leave what you had planned for another day."
"No, Harry. We have what I need to unmask her. I just need to pressure her into telling me if that child was mine and who helped her with the photos."Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
"I know, but you got an invitation to dinner tonight at the restaurant downtown."
"A dinner?" I frowned, and he showed me the invitation. "Who is it from? What for?"
Harry shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know; it just says that we are invited to dinner. Your family, Elisa's, and some other socialites are also invited, but they demand your presence."
"Mm, and they sent it here with my name," I said in suspicion, a name coming to mind.
"Where else, then?"
Sometimes I don't understand how he is a great lawyer.
I gave him a blank look. "We are in Autos-Let, genius. No one in this country knows that I am the owner, so explain to me how I received an invitation with my name and surname to this address. Unless it is from my grandfather, you or her." "Whatever. It must be a good thing for us, and the plan can continue tonight. Anyway, I haven't been able to find out anything with the doctor. She is very strict with the safety of her patients."
"Elisa was pale when we arrived at the center, and after hearing the doctor's name, she looked like she'd seen a ghost. Are we sure that the doctor was the one who checked her and that she was pregnant?" I asked, and he nodded. "Well, she denied it, so she must be hiding something." "The pregnancy is confirmed, and the doctor keeps her mouth shut."
"Patricia might know something, but she didn't want to say anything. I have to find out, but not before knowing where Sofia is."Some sentences are incomplete if you are not reading this novel on Jo b n lb. co=m. Let her relax for a while."
"It's easy for you to say that when it's not your wife who walks around the world like a single woman because she's angry with you. I already know what you're going to say, so save it."
"I'll leave you to calm down those fumes if you don't want to start liquidating and be left without clients and employees."
He left my office, and I stared at the invitation. I don't know why, but I sense that this has something to do with a certain vengeful lady. I got a call from Dad again, but I ignored it. I finished some matters and went to Andrew & Lewis.
"Good afternoon, sir."
""Good afternoon."
"Sir, you have a visitor," she informed me, and I entered my office to see my mother. "She didn't want to wait outside."
"It's alright. You can leave now." She left, and I faced my mother. "What are you doing here, Mom?"
"Is that any way to greet your mother?" Mom asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm busy, so tell me what you want. Because I don't think it's to see how I'm doing."
"You are my son; of course, I'll worry about you."
"I don't doubt it, but between your concern for me and your interests, I'm sure the second option has more weight."
Mother looked hurt at that. "You offend me, Angel; what has that woman done with you?"
"Which of the two? The holy dove that can't break a plate or the evil witch in this story? I'm just clarifying."
Mom sighed and changed the topic. "Son, the fact that you are fighting with your father is not good; we are a family, and he only wants the best for you."
"Yes, of course, that's why he invented something so delicate against two people; he played with my life, and on top of that, he manipulated me according to his whim."
"That is not true; maybe you're exaggerating with a few things, but..."
"R**e, drugs, and threats are not exaggerating some little things, mother. He made me believe that we were broke, that my father-in-law threatened to make us miserable and sent me to jail, and that Sofia was the one behind it. I have been hating my father-in-law and my wife for five years because I believed that they damaged my image in front of my father. The man wanted to fill with pride even though I was never enough for him is the one responsible for my sufferings."
"Son..."
"Mom, stop it; don't defend him anymore. Besides, I know that you also participated in this. Be thankful that you are my parents, and I am not making you pay as you deserve."
"Son, don't be so cruel!" Now I'm the cruel one? "Okay, you're still upset, but we are still your parents, and it's not fair for you to ignore us. The Andrews are destroying your father! In just three days, he was banned from entering big clubs; he was not able to attend shareholder events, and you know that is where the big business is done! He has lost clients and deals!"
Instead of being affected, I just shrugged. "Well, he asked for it; I'm not going to mess with Gerard's decisions, and as far as I know, my grandfather is taking care of that."
"But son, your grandfather is old; your father should be the one in charge of the company."
"Mom, my dad hasn't done anything for a long time. He shows up, he demands, he attends those events, he gets some business, he sends it to me, and Pops and I are the ones who have to carry it out while he takes the credit and gets paid. So stop the nonsense and tell me what you're doing here."
"I can't believe you offend your parents like this," my mom dramatically said while her hand was on her chest.
"My parents offended me first; therefore, I have the right to do what I wish with them."
"Angel, we can't be humiliated like this. People are already talking about us! Your sister no longer knows what else to invent about why we haven't gone to the club or other places. They say that our relationship with the Andrews has been broken and, therefore, some people no longer speak to us." Mom continued to complain while sniffing and wiping invisible tears.
"Weren't you the first to say that there is nothing between Sofia and me anymore? That our contract is done? Didn't Angelica make it clear that Sofia was not her sister-in-law? Mom, if they treat you like that just because you lost Andrew's favor, then you need better friends. You brought it upon yourselves to upset Sofia, even though she already warned you."
"I don't want to talk about that woman."
"That woman is my wife, so be careful what you say about her. You owe her five years of benefits, privileges, and the status that you so desired. Now if she took them from you, you should just ask yourself, What did you do to her?"
"You can revoke that extension, Angel; you are my son, and you have the same status as her; you can get us a membership."
I massaged my temple, already tired of this conversation. "I can, but I don't want to, and if I were to do it, it wouldn't be as extensive as the one Sofia gave you. You have to meet certain standards that you already know how difficult it is to obtain. Is there anything else you need?" "Angel Leffman, I did not raise a cruel and ungrateful son who does not care about the well-being of his family!"
I finally lost my patience and gritted my teeth. "I married the woman I supposedly hated for the well-being of this family! I sacrificed my plans for this family, and what have I received? Endless complaints and mistreatment towards my wife and me! She accepted it because she thought she deserved it, but that's not the case, and you knew it, which makes you the ones who are hypocrites and ungrateful!"
Mother was stunned, and her mouth hung open. "Angel, don't talk to me like that."
"The truth always hurts, mother. Now if that was all, you may leave now. I have things to do."
"Angel, the well-being of this family comes first."
Five years ago, the well-being of this family did not think about me but rather about your own interests, regardless of what I wanted. Now I will do the same and think about myself; your interests are not my problem. If you'll excuse me, with all the respect in the world, will you come out, or do I have to send you out?"
"You're hurting your mother, Angel. I'm so disappointed in you." She sniffed and continued to cry as if my words didn't get through to her.
"I'll get over it, don't worry," I nonchalantly said, and she stormed out of my office with an angry look on her face.
An hour later, I had another unwanted visitor, and Elisa entered my office. What the hell?! Is knocking not common anymore?!
"I'm annoyed, Angel!"
I sighed and continued what I was doing. "And what do you want me to do?"
"Don't be rude, Angel. They banned me from the club, and I don't even know why! I heard they won't let your family in either. This is an abuse of power!"
"Well, you must have done something to stop them from letting you in. What does that have to do with me?"
"Angel, you are an influential person; you can do something."
"No, I am not the owner of that clubhouse to decide what to do."
"If you can't do something about it, then what can you do?" She exclaimed, and I looked at her in amusement. She realized what she said and bit her lip. "What I want to say is..."
"I know what you mean, and you're the one who doesn't understand. Everyone is free to do what they want on their property, and I have more important things to do than go see why the owner of a club doesn't want you in."
"Angel, for us, this is something important!"
"Elisa, in life, there are more crucial things than gossiping in clubs. For example, looking for something productive to do in life to be someone. Speaking of something else, I received an invitation to the restaurant downtown. Do you know about it?"
"No, I also received one this morning. It only says that it was something important. It seems like it's an event or something like that, but they demand our presence."
"Mm, you better prepare yourself because I have a surprise for you."
Elisa's mood changed, and she batted her eyelashes. "For you, I'm going to make myself as pretty as possible."
Oh, Elisa, you don't know what awaits you.
"Then we will wait until tonight."
"Aren't you going to help your mother and me get back into the club?"
"My parents already know what they have to do to get back into the club. Let them follow the protocols and ask for membership to see if it is granted. As for you, what do you want me to do? Find out what you did to get banned and fix it." Elisa stomped her feet like a child. "When you say it like that, you are really hateful, Angel."
"You haven't seen me hateful or angry yet, but you will; don't worry," I said coldly, and she looked at me scared. "Is it possible for me to work now, or will Angelia show up after you?"
"Hmp! I don't know about your sister, but you are annoying. I'm leaving, Angel. See you tonight."
Oh, I can hardly wait, Elisa.
