Chapter 524
Chapter 524 There Was Always a Bigger Fish
Harper responded calmly, her smile deepening, yet her eyes remained utterly calm, without a ripple of emotion.
Indeed, Samantha had made the call at her persuasion, but it turned out to be a bust.
Harper explained to Samantha that her fallout with Benjamin was due to some disagreements and a misunderstanding caused by a mutual friend, which led Benjamin to confine her here, forbidding her to leave. This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Touched by her story and moved by the fact that she was pregnant, Samantha agreed to help.
Her plan was simple. If Samantha could persuade Curtis, she would likely spend her day learning to cook at the apartment, which would allow her to get in touch with Annie. She was sure Annie would do everything possible to free her once she knew about the situation. But Curtis hadn't agreed, and asking Benjamin seemed to be just an excuse.
Harper smiled wryly, her lips curling in self-mockery.
Living here these past few days, she had moved from agitation to a calm and steady state.
Let things take their course.
She really didn't want to guess what Benjamin was thinking anymore.
Benjamin had been standing by the living room's floor-to-ceiling window since he came out of the dining room, his distinctively jointed fingers holding a cigarette. Curtis was used to seeing him smoke by now, so it was no longer surprising.
Curtis asked, "Mr. Martin, should the maid taking care of Mrs. Martin learn from our housemaids about her preferred dishes?"
"No need."
"No?"
Benjamin glanced at him indifferently, slightly annoyed, "Was I not clear enough, or did you not understand what I said?"
"I understand," Curtis replied.
He didn't know why Benjamin was suddenly upset.
He dared not speak too freely anymore, his mind racing for an excuse to leave this tense situation.
Just as Curtis was about to excuse himself to prepare for tomorrow's schedule, Benjamin's voice slowly filled the air, "Samantha must have been bribed to make that call, and even if the food was not to her taste, Samantha wouldn't know.
That's when Curtis realized why he was upset.
He had to admit that Harper was pretty clever.
But there was always a bigger fish.
Benjamin's thin lips were slightly parted, his voice indifferent. "Just a heads up to them; don't get wrapped up in her schemes. I don't want to see them still singing her praises after she stabbed them in the back."
"Alright, I got it." Curtis nodded.
Benjamin knew Harper well, aware of her intelligence and her knack for winning people over. A maid being bought off was only temporary, if given more time, even the two bodyguards, along with Larry might faff under her sway.
Benjamin squinted, thinking to himself that everything needed to speed up now.
Around seven in the evening, Benjamin had a video conference. Curtis was taking notes on the side. The meeting lasted an hour, and by the time it ended, it was past eight. Benjamin glanced at his watch, a subtle reminder. "It's about time, why hasn't there been any replied?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Curtis's phone also rang.
Curtis instinctively looked at Benjamin. "It's come through."
"Answer it!"
Curtis followed the instructions and picked up with a mild tone. "Hello, Ms. Davis, what can I do for you?"
