Chapter 67
Artemis
POV
The journey back home was rather silent and morbid. I could tell Kieran was worried about me but thankfully he didn't say anything.
I had woken up earlier that night, my face and pillow wet from all the tears. Kieran was hovering over me looking worried and I had explained to him the vision I had seen. After that, I wasn't in much mood to be talking and thankfully, he didn't push me. "Maybe you should put that away," he suggested. I looked up from the paper, catching his worried blue gaze and the almost pleading look in them so I nodded and put it away.© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
The first thing I had done once I woke up and narrated the whole vision was that I reached for a paper and pen and sketched the face of the leader. My hands moved expertly across the sheet and I could easily recall every wrinkle and every hair he had. Needles to say, I had been staring at my drawing for a while now, hoping to maybe catch another vision and find out who he was.
"All the prisoners aren't speaking so we don't know if they recognise him or not," Medea piped up, holding a phone to her ear.
The witches had joined us on the flight back home in the jet. I had asked them to send pictures of my drawing around to see if anyone could find him.
"Trust me, they know who he is," I growled.
I had no doubt that this vile creature was very much still alive. It was a feeling that had settled into my bones from the moment I had woken up.
"You said one of the witches found a clue down south," I paused for confirmation. Medea nodded, glancing at Keiran unsurely.
"Then that's where we start," I stated. I purposefully ignored the concerned glances they were all sharing with each other and settled back into my seat, closing my eyes for the rest of the journey.
The rest of the jet ride was uneventful and we landed in Canada. Apollo was there to greet us with his usually sunny smile and I only now realised how much I had missed him.
Goddess knows I could use such a bright and cheery person after the events of the week.
"Good to have you back Luna," he chuckled, leaning down and squeezing me in a hug.
"Of course, it's great to be home," I replied, squeezing him back. We let each other go as he greeted Kieran just as enthusiastically before we piled up into a sleek black car and he drove us back to pack lands.
We were greeted at the pack house with all the pack members surrounding the large house, standing by the entrance and at the driveway with large smiles.
"Welcome back Alpha and Luna!" They cheered. Some of them popped party poppers and some children ran up to us, holding little cupcakes with messages and smiley faces.
"Luna look what I made! I drew you on my cake!" One particularly adorable boy chimed, holding a cake right up to me.
I bent down to his level and inspected his offering, admiring the clumsy stick figure he drew with blue icing and ruffling his floppy hair.
"That's fantastic Callum! You should definitely consider being an artist, or maybe a baker," His wide blue eyes gazed up at me in wonder and I felt my heart melt at the adorable sight.
"I wanna be a warrior," he shook his head, puffing out his chest. I giggled at how much this boy reminded me of Kieran all of a sudden.
"Of course and what a mighty one you'll be," I gave his adorable chubby cheek a kiss and accepted his little cake before I was bombarded by more kids.
"Luna look! I drew your crown on my cake!"
I was quickly distracted by the children and continued entertaining them and listening to their excited ramblings. I sat on the ground with them, surrounded in a little semi circle of young pups.
"So you really met the vampires? Did they have big fangs?" A young Sophie asked.
"No, I think our fangs are much bigger," I smirked. They looked at each other in wonder, baring their teeth and trying to to see their own fangs.
"Are they mean?" Another young girl asked, looking a little worried.
"No. Some of them are really friendly. And they're all very beautiful too," She looked surprised so I continued my tales about the ball and explained the extravagant dresses and the lavish decorations that I saw. "Wow, I want to go to a ball!" She explained, twirling her polka dot dress rather dreamily. Some of the girls giggled and joined her, twirling around like a princess.
"So does that mean the bad guys are gone?" A young boy spoke up. His dark eyes looked rather fearful but he had this air of intelligence about him.
"The bad guys?" I asked.
"Yeah the ones who hurt you first," he bit his lip and looked down, his ears tuning red as if he said something he shouldn't have. The other kids looked at him, a mix of horror and anger, further making him retreat into himself. Clearly, the question ruined whatever light mood the kids were in and this dark and silent cloud passed over them.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have asked," he mumbled. I reached for him, pulling the young boy into my lap and held him.
"Hey, that's a very important question to ask and I'm glad you did," I gave the scornful kids a pointed look and thankfully, they dropped their glares and looked rather bashful themselves. I turned and addressed the five year old in my arms. "Unfortunately we haven't caught the bad guys yet, but we're close," I added. "Now that the vampires and witches are on our team, we can easily win this fight in no time. That means we can all go back to normal," I reassured.
"Does that mean you're going to have your ceremony too?" The boy in my arms asked, perking up.
I glanced up at Kieran, who stood a little away with Zane and the others, still talking. I nodded at his question, excited squeals and giggles breaking out and making me chuckle.
"Luna, please can I throw the petals?"
"Can I hold your flowers?"
"I want to sit right at the front!"
For the first time during that day, I felt some semblance of happiness. Watching these young children gave me hope and reminded me of what truly mattered. I wanted to be surrounded by this, people that I loved and somewhere in the future, I'd hear the soft patter of small feet running around and the giggles of pups of my own.
Looking up again, I made eye contact with Kieran, whose blue gaze was just as intense, filled with something soft and hopeful that made butterflies break out in my stomach.
'Let's go hunting,' His voice spoke up in my mind.
My grin widened as I looked at the man that was my future. He knew me so well and knew what I needed.
I was a lucky woman and I'd be stupid to ever forget that.
