Chapter 0074
With those final words, she turned on her heel and stalked away.
"Mara, wait!" Bethany was quick to follow, leaving Tobias was stare at the back of his ex wife.
Even though it hadn't been him who took all those slaps, he felt awful, guilty and most importantly, like he had gained a new revelation.
"Tobias," Fiona's voice has his eyes moving from the empty spot to her direction. She stood with her hand still on her cheek, years freely flowing from her eyes. "Aren't you going to do something? Are you just going to let her walk away after hitting me? This isn't fair, she can't just walk away like that! Fucking do something!" "Fair? Are you fucking serious?"
The coldness in his tone and the darkness in his eyes was enough to have Fiona frozen.
He walked forward and seized her arm, pulling her closer to his face. "I never knew you would turn out to be this spoilt, Fiona. I gave you the best things in life, the things dad couldn't provide because I thought it would leave no room for you to go astray, but instead, you used the privileges you were given and abused them. And the sad part is, you did all this behind my back. How does that make you feel? Does it make you feel proud? Happy? Do you feel like you've accomplished something in life? I want to hear your answer, Fiona." Fiona remained silent, her eyes darting anywhere except his face.
"Look at me." Tobias demanded. "I said look at me!" He grabbed her chin and forced her head to turn, his fingers digging painfully into her cheeks.
"Answer me. Was this how I struggled to raise you? Is this what you do with the privilege I toil day and night to provide you with?"
Her silence was all the answer Tobias needed. For a second, pity flashed in his eyes, but it was gone before Fiona could see.
He pushed her away. "You've disappointed me, Fiona."
His words were like needle piercing her skin. Apart from her mother and their late father, Tobias had been the only figure Fiona had struggled so much to impress.
He was her big brother, the person who had protected her from bullies back in school, the person who had comforted her when things went wrong, the person who had loved her despite her shortcomings. He was her idol.
To disappoint him, was like losing her only source of inspiration.
"Big brother," She cried, tears streaming down her eyes. She reached out for his hand, hoping he'd accept hers as usual, but his hands remained glued to his sides, and his eyes, devoid of the usual warmth. t
"Pack your bags when we get home. Id much rather send you abroad to complete your studies than stand by and watch you make a mistake that would forever ruin your life." With those final words, he turned around and left her standing, crying, alone.
Amara was pissed.
But not as much as she felt hurt. Recalling those hard times she suffered in silence felt like Fiona had thrown salt on old wounds.Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
Bethany who quickly sensed the deterioration of their night, suggested they take their fun elsewhere.
"Giovanni's." She suggested.
At first, the thought wasn't all that pleasant to Amara, but after realizing that anything would be better than recalling those old memories, she agreed.
Thirty minutes into Giovanni's and Amara was head first drunk, leaving Bethany to regret her suggestion.
"I'm fine, not drunk at all." Amara insisted as Bethany led her towards the car.
"I can see that." Was Bethany's unconvinced reply.
Opening the door, she gently laid Amara down in the passenger seat and rushed over to the driver seat, getting into place.
Thankfully, the entire drama back at Disco Cove had sobered her up and knowing that she was going to be driving, she only drank water and soft drinks at Giovanni's. Starting the engine, she drove towards Amara's place. By the time she pulled into the parking lot, Amara looked like she was already slobbering up.
She helped Amara out of the car and
headed towards the front door, but much to her surprise, someone was already waiting at the door for them and it was none other than Tobias.
