Chapter 0069
A detention cell and conference room surely had more than one differences, yet, here Tobias was, seating comfortably and chatting his time away with Gemini, like he hadn't been charged with sexual Harassment the night before and meant to be detained. Amara could only but sigh quietly. Honestly, she wasn't surprised to see Tobias present at the meeting, although she had not expected him, it was a well know fact that Connor Lin, his lawyer for five years running, was the best lawyer in the whole of England. So a case like sexual Harassment would be no different from a regular business case to him, which was why she was unsurprised to see Tobias here.
"Ah, Miss Miller," Gemini greeted as soon as she noticed Amara's presence.
Tobias's head turned in her direction at the sound of her name. His eyes scanned her, but he made no effort to acknowledge her.
Amara reciprocated the gesture, however, she didn't allow her gaze to linger for more than a few seconds.
"Madam Sinclair," She walked over and offered a handshake, which Gemini did not hesitate to take. "Once again, Thank you for choosing to work with Synergy. I promise, you would not regret your decision."
Gemini smiled. "I hope so. Please," She pointed as the seat besides her. "Seat. Let's get to signing the contract so that we can proceed with the first step."
Amara complied, sitting down and reaching for a pen.
"Ah, the contract." Gemini waved her assistant over, and the young male, who had been standing a bit further off, came forward, carrying the contract and a briefcase.
He placed the brief case on the table and handed the paper to their respective owners. Amara's eyes briefly scanned the paper before finding where she was meant to sign. Without further delay, she signed her name and then passed the contract to Gemini, who also signed hers and passed it back to Amara.
After this was done, they shared a final handshake and Gemini was the first to stand.
"Come with me, I'll show you both the project you'll be working on."
The two followed the older female.
"Mother." Bethany greeted her mother with a court nod, tagging along with them as they walked towards the elevator. "How did it go, Amara?" She asked.
"Good," Came Amara answer, plain and simple. On other occasions, she would have indulged Bethany's curiosity, but today was not one of those days, because as they spoke, Amara could feel Tobias's eyes drilling holes in the back of her head. And it was freaking uncomfortable.
When the elevator arrived, everyone walked in, but the tension that was now palpable in the air caused everyone to fall into an awkward silence.
No one dared speak a word, afraid that they might say something that would ruin the mood anymore than it already had.
Gemini was the first to break the silence when they arrived at an underground warehouse. "This is project AMC." She introduced, leading the way to a human size mannequin machine.
Amara and Bethany were the first to walk towards the machine. The older female had an unreadable expression, whereas Amara was curious, eyes narrowed into calculating slits like a young child who had just discovered some foreign cake topping.
"I was a bit hesitant to share this
project with the both of you, because of the amount of work it requires. But decided to take a
chance and trust you two." She gestured to the mannequin and explained. "AMC, short for Artificially manufactured companion, is the first Al developed machine of its Kind here at Gemini. It's a robot that can perform human tasks. As the name suggests, these machines are created and programmed to serve a master. It can do everything a real person can, only better, since they are not controlled by emotions and can be easily disposed."
She paused and glanced at the three individuals around her. Tobias was interested, but his ever stoic expression overtook whatever bit of emotion his visage could show, whereas, Bethany's and Amara's expressions were filled with shock and intrigue.
Their expressions were more than
enough to propel Gemini's speech forward. "My team created two versions of AMC. Over here is the first version, designed to carry out duties and procedures family members would, one might as well caffit family caretaker. While the other one, is designed to carry out duties a husband or wife would, a companion.
"You can control the AMC through a wrist watch that is connected to the machine, the same way a trainer
would connect a device to a pet." Saying this, Gemini picked a
wristwatch from the podium in front, tandUpstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
strapped it around her wrist
clicked it once. "Once the connection
has been made, you can easily
command the AMC, whether it's to
cook, clean or simply entertain."
