Chapter 0037
Jasper swallowed nervously, feeling as small as an ant as Amara stared down at him.
"Go on," She urged, folding her hand across her chest and looking expectant. "I'm listening."
"I..." He began, but the words he wanted to say were stuck in his throat.
What happened to the man that was confidently speaking a few seconds ago? He questioned himself, wanting to open his mouth and speak the truth. And what exactly was the truth? The fact that he, amongst all the executives deserved the position of branch manager more than Amara ever did.Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.
He had been with the company longer, knew more people, and had a wider network of contacts and influence. He had even made more investment and worked his ass off more than anyone.
How was a newcomer like Amara qualified for the role? She wasn't. She had not experienced the hardships he had. Hadn't faced the struggles he had, nor did she have the determination, the commitment, the skills and experience he had.
So why the hell did she get the role he has always wanted? Simply because she sold her body? Disgusting!
Jasper silence dragged on for longer than anyone liked. Amara tilted her head to the side, sizing up the person who called himself a man.
"Well, aren't you going to say anything? Have you lost the motivation to spout lies now that you've seen me?" She asked, her tone was sweet and a bit mocking, which had Jasper's teeth clenching and his fists balling up.
"You," He hissed. "Who said anything about spouting lies? I was simply telling this Youngblood the truth."
"The truth? What exactly is the truth?"
"You're proposal to meet with Madam Sinclair was declined and soon, the president would realize your incompetence and kick you out, then he'd come and meet me, who's well acquainted with Madam Sinclair and ask me to step up and fix this mess, which I would, because Madam Sinclair and I go way back. We have so much in common that wrapping up a deal like this would be a piece of cake."
His words had Amara smiling. "Then, do you want to test that theory?"
"Test what theory?" Jasper asked, a bit confused.
"The one where you think you can secure the deal with Madam Sinclair faster than can. We can compete, fairly of course, and whoever loses will have to leave the position of brand manager and return to being a lowly employee. If you're so
confident in your abilities, surely you
wouldn't pass such an opportunity,
right?"
The crowd of employees who had been silently watching the exchange between the two, began to mutter among themselves. Some were excited, some were a bit skeptical and others were completely against it, claiming it was unfair and biased. Some how, under all their whispers and eyes, Jasper felt like a heavy weight was being pressed on him.
"W-why the hell should we do that?!" He stuttered. Don't you know competing against each other on a project this big can have both of us fired if we don't secure it?" Shaking his, dasper muttered. "This is why you should never leave responsibility to immature ones."
"And originally," He perked up again, pointing his hand at Amara who silently watched him, well aware that he had just chickened out of the competition she proposed. "This job was your task. You promised, no, you boasted that you could secure it with..." He paused and allowed his eyes roam Amara's body from head to toe, before a sneer graced his lips. "With that."
Amara wasn't fazed. Instead, she gave him a smile that he indicated as his right to continue on.
"But, if you can't, I'm more than willing to help, as long as you go on your knees and wipe my shoes." Dipping his hand into his pocket, Jasper pulled out a napkin and threw it to the ground, looking at Amara with a disgusting stare. But his eyes weren't on her face, and soon, Amara realized that he saw staring at her chest.
"Well, what's it gonna be?"
There was no reply.
For a few seconds, the crowd of employees who had gathered to hear Jasper's gossip was silent, and the entire space was filled with suspense and tension.
