Chapter 736
Glynnis‘ heart skipped a beat as Thaddeus walked into the room. She suddenly felt like a comered mouse, desperately wishing she could scurry away into the shadows and disappear.
Frederic’s aloof gaze swept over Thaddeus’ stern face before he quickly got to his feet. “Dad, why didn’t you give me a heads-up? | would have come to meet you,” Frederic said as he approached.
“I'm not a guest here, this is my house. Why would | need any pomp and circumstance from Mr. Frederic? Hamilton Abernathy snorted coldly; he was never one to mince words with his only son.
Frederic’s expression darkened a shade.
The old man’s words were a clear reminder that Windermere Estate didn’t belong to him but to his father. Living here wouldn’t make him the lord of the manor.
“Grandpa, | heard that Marilla’s been recuperating under your care. How is she doing?” Glynnis asked with a tight voice; standing behind Frederic, she tried to play the role of a concerned elder sister.
“She’s much better, eating like a horse,” Hamilton replied, before looking curiously at Thaddeus. Thaddeus, you’ve brought me back to Windermere Estate, and dragged your father along. Is there something you need to tell us?”
Thaddeus gently adjusted the cashmere throw on his grandfather’s knees, with his eyes narrowing slightly. “Aren’t you curious to know who’s been conspiring with Fairhaven Group behind the scenes and leaking Marilla’s psychiatric reports? Dad, don’t you also want to know who's been backstabbing Abernathy Enterprises?
His gaze turned sharp as a blade, and it was zeroing in on Glynnis, whose face twisted with fear.
“Why are you looking at me like that?!” Glynnis exclaimed; a sense panic caused her to retreat step by step until she knocked over the expensive tea set on the coffee table. “What are you implying? You think | leaked it? Don’t pin this on me just because you can’t find the real culprit!”
The Abernathy father and son stared at Glynnis in a dumbfounded look.
Hamilton’s eyes widened as he gripped his wheelchair armrests tighter. Thaddeus, are you saying that Glynnis colluded with Fairhaven Group and harmed Marilla?!”
Frederic looked sternly at Thaddeus. “This is a serious allegation, Thaddeus. Marilla is your sister, and so is Glynnis. Even if you dislike her, you can’t falsely accuse her without evidence, especially when she’s had a falling out with Evadne Ashbourne.”
Glynnis seized the opportunity to shift the blame. “Yes! You're just trying to curry favor with Evadne, that’s all!” Meanwhile, the unwitting Evadne sneezed and thought to herself, “Who’s cursing me now?” Thaddeus continued to fix her with his gaze; his silence alone caused her to feel utterly cornered.
“The only people who could have accessed Marilla’s report were grandfather, dad, myself, and the late Elspeth Frost Abernathy. Grandfather and dad would never do such a thing, but Elspeth might have made a deal with you,” Thaddeus said calmly; his presence was overpowering.
Glynnis felt choked, as if Thaddeus‘ words were physically squeezing her throat.
She couldn't possibly accuse Hamilton or Frederic, so she shot back, “Or maybe you did it! At the Williams’ dinner party, Edith Fairhaven blurted out Evadne’s infertility, and Fairhaven Group caused trouble for the Ashbournes at the races! Maybe you wanted revenge and sacrificed your own sister in a despicable ploy! After all, you’ve used far crueler tactics against business rivals, and everyone in the Elmsworth social circle knows how low you can stoop!”
“Glynnis! That’s no way to speak to your brother!” Hamilton scolded sharply. “Thaddeus has worked tirelessly for Abernathy Enterprises and for our family! How dare you slander his character like this? If what you said is true, then | guess there’s not a single good person in the Abernathy family!”
His father’s words made Frederic’s face grow even stormier
“Grandpa! There should be a limit to your favoritism!” Glynnis stomped her foot in frustration. “Yes, | made mistakes before, but it was Elspeth who led me astray! | was tricked by her! Thaddeus can’t just blame me for everything!”
“Thaddeus, we should be confronting Fairhaven Group about Marilla, not turning on each other. Do you want to throw our family into more chaos?!” Frederic said with a furious gaze; it was obvious that he sided with Glynnis.
Deep down, he didn’t hold much affection for his wayward daughter, but blood was thicker than water, and family disputes were to be settled within the walls of Windermere Estate.
Thaddeus’ fury was fueled by the blatant collusion between his kin, an insidious duet that seemed determined to undermine his authority as the head of the family. He could no longer contain his wrath.
“As for the Fairhaven group issue, Jareth will handle it. As to the Abernathy group, | need not trouble you two with it; | will take care of our house cleaning,” Thaddeus proclaimed with a chill that could freeze the soul.
His icy gaze once again landed on Glynnis. “Glynnis, I’m going to ask you one last time. Did you give the Fairhaven group Marilla’s medical report?”
“No! It has nothing to do with me!” Glynnis retorted, her eyes blazing with defiant crimson.
“Fine.”
Thaddeus raised his voice, “Gordon.”
The loyal Gordon stepped in promptly, offering a respectful bow. “Mr. Thaddeus. Mr. Frederic, good day to you, sir.” “Bring out the ‘gift’ | prepared for miss number three,” Thaddeus commanded, his face a mask of aristocratic frost. “At once, Mr. Thaddeus.”
Gordon glared coldly at Glynnis, then grabbed the remote from the coffee table and switched on the massive flat-screen TV in the living room.
And not content with just visuals, he cranked up the volume to the max, ensuring that not only Hamilton and Frederic could hear every sordid detail, but so could the servants who were eavesdropping from just outside the room. Visit noveldrama.org to read the latest
“Come on, faster! Oh, that’s so hot, do it faster!” The lewd scene and vulgar language assaulted everyone present wave after wave.
In the cramped confines of a bathroom, Glynnis, stripped bare, was being contorted into indecent positions by a male model. Their limbs entangled, and her hips gyrated with excitement as she screamed wildly.
Gordon quickly turned away. Having been forced to watch the video once in private, he couldn’t bear a second viewing; it was too nauseating.
The film, if leaked overseas, would surely rocket Ms. Glynnis to infamy as a leading lady of adult entertainment. She had the moves and the moxie, though her figure left something to be desired.
Hamilton and Frederic couldn't believe that the woman in the video, who was more lascivious than a harlot, was Glynnis! A chaotic clatter resounded!
Glynnis, pale as a ghost, collapsed onto the coffee table, spilling her drink all over her skirt, then tumbled to the floor, trembling uncontrollably.
The man who had been with her last night had not only recorded her but had passed the footage to Thaddeus. Could it be that the male model was a plant by Thaddeus?! Had he been deliberately placed in her path to ensnare her?!
“Enough! Turn it off now!” Frederic, forced to witness his daughter’s salacious display, flushed with a mix of white—hot shame and rage!Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Hamilton and Mr. Murray, too, couldn't bear another glance at the screen. Overwhelmed with indignation, the old man shakily rose from his wheelchair and staggered over to Glynnis, delivering a stinging slap to her face! Visit noveldrama.org to read the latest
“You shameless creature! You have dragged the Abernathy name through the mud!”
“Ah!” Glynnis cried out, feeling her cheek numb with pain and her head buzzing.
The sound of that slap was so loud that even the servants outside heard it, which was a testament to the patriarch’s rage. With no expression on his face, Thaddeus gestured slightly, and Gordon turned off the TV.
“Glynnis, surely you do not wish for your private life to be showcased to the nation, much like your mother who was executed by a firing squad,” Thaddeus said, his indifferent gaze piercing her. A slow smile spread across his thin I*ps. “Now, tell me. Did you give the Fairhaven group the medical report?” Visit noveldrama.org to read the latest
Glynnis was terrified out of her wits, and with sweat dripping to the floor, she faced what she considered the most fearsome smile in the world, as if it emerged from the deepest pits of hell.
