Chapter 734
Chapter 734 Jareth had spent just one night in the hospital.
Throughout that sleepless night, he was on the phone non-stop, taking calls, arranging press conferences, and reaching out to renowned psychiatrists and psychologists both domestic and abroad. He was desperate to secure the best possible care for his beloved.
But Barry, as if determined to drive Jareth to distraction, had dumped the entire weight of the corporation’s affairs on his shoulders without regard for his well-being.
Dean stood by helplessly, almost on the verge of tears.
That morning, shortly after Jareth had been hooked up to an IV drip, Lily’s call came through. Learning that Marilla was stable, Jareth immediately yanked out the needle and strode towards the exit while donning his black coat.
“Dean, get the car ready!”
“Mr. Fairhaven, you really should finish your meds before you rush off!” Dean felt heartsick, witnessing how Mr. Fairhaven had tormented himself and how his face had turned gaunt from just a few days of stress.
“lm fine.”
Jareth had already reached the door; his silhouette showed a blend of determination and desolation, and his hoarse voice was filled with urgent longing. “Nothing matters more to me than seeing my wife.”
Once again, the luxury car pulled into the sprawling driveway of Havenbrook Villa. And once again, Jareth was turned away by Hamilton.
“Mr. Fairhaven, Ms. Marilla is much better. She had a hearty breakfast,” Mr. Murray greeted him; in his respectful demeanor and his neutral tone, he betrayed no resentment towards Jareth.
“Really? Marilla ate well? That’s great.”
Jareth’s joyous smile brimmed in his eyes, his long lashes quivering. He was easily lost in sweet memories, “Marilla’s never been keen on breakfast, and she always needed me to coax and persuade her to get up and eat. Every time, | would make sure to eat with her before leaving for work.”
“Mr. Fairhaven, you've been very caring. Looking after our Ms. Marilla for so long must have been hard on you,” Mr. Murray bowed slightly,
Asharp pain struck Jareth’s heart. Such words sounded like a farewell.
“Mr. Frederic and the caring nurse, Lily, are with Ms. Marilla. She’s doing well, so you don’t need to worry. Since it’s getting colder these days, please don’t catch a chill. Please go back.”
“Murray!”
Jareth’s gaze was feverish as he grabbed hold of Mr. Murray’s arm; with his dry lips parting in urgency and his voice hoarse with a delay, he pleaded “Can | see Marilla, please? Just a glimpse. | miss her so much.”
“Mr. Fairhaven, Mr. Frederic has instructed that Ms. Marilla is not to receive visitors during her recovery. Please leave, Mr. Murray repeated mechanically.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Visitor?”
Jareth shivered at the alien word and couldn’t help but give out a heavy cough, “Marilla is my fiancée, my love! My family! How can | be a visitor?!”

instead he turned to advise him earnestly, “But given what’s happened, you know how angry and resentful Mr. Hamilton is. Moreover, Mr. Barry Fairhaven.”
“What has he done?!” Jareth pressed, frantic for answers. “He phoned us on the night of the incident, arguing fiercely with Mr. Frederic. Ms. Evadne was also present.”
Mr. Murray sighed helplessly, “The gentlemen made their stance clear over the phone. Your engagement to Ms. Marilla, I’m afraid it’s off.”
Upon hearing it, Jareth’s world seemed to implode, and he felt debris and dust raining down upon him, causing a pain so intense that he could taste iron in his mouth..
He could imagine just how vicious Barry’s words must have been.
Seeing the usually impeccable gentleman turn pale, Mr. Murray found his eyes moisten, so he added softly, “Mr. Fairhaven, you know Ms. Marilla’s condition. Our master never intended for her to marry, and she’s not suited to it. They are well able to care for Ms. Marilla for life. She’s better off carefree as the darling of the Abernathy family than as a grand lady. You’ve done nothing wrong. It’s just that the two of you weren’t meant to be. Don’t clash too much with your own family. Mr. Frederic doesn’t expect any grand gestures from you. Let's leave it at that. Isn’t it enough to have the good memories?”
Mr. Murray knew how cruel his words were to a man who loved Marilla so deeply.
But it was the gentlest way he could think to tell him, his love story with Marilla had no future.
“Have you even considered Marilla’s feelings in all this?!”
Jareth’s eyes were bloodshot, and his body was trembling uncontrollably, as if his heart was pierced with arrows, “Marilla loves me! We can’t live without each other!
What era is this that we're still talking about arranged marriages?! | love her no matter what, and | can face any pressure to be with her! Our love should be enough! Why can't we be together, why?!” Visit noveldrama.org to read the latest
Mr. Murray, knowing further words were futile, bowed once more and turned to leave.
“Can't | just quit being CEO, huh?! Can | cut all ties with Fairhaven Enterprises? Is that okay?! | don’t need anything. | just want Marilla!”
Jareth’s voice was a raspy roar, the sound of a man at the end of his rope. The only reply was the howling of the cold, indifferent wind. After an eternity, a slender and familiar figure approached the man who seemed a mere shadow of himself. It was Lily.
“Mr. Fairhaven, let me take you home,” Lily said; her swollen and red eyes denoted that she had clearly cried. Jareth’s eyes suddenly reignited with a spark of hope as he grabbed her shoulders with a desperate strength. ‘Lily, does Marilla know I'm here? “Yes, the lady heard,” Lily replied in a strained voice.
“What did she say? What did Marilla tell you?! She must miss me too, she must want to come home. Lily, let’s take Marilla home now, today I’m taking her back, no one can stop me!”
“Sir, Lily was unmovable, her voice but a whisper, “The lady won't be coming back with you.” He was stunned. “What are you talking about?” With tears brimming in her eyes, Lily slowly opened her palm.
There, resting quietly in her hand, was the exquisitely carved white jade hairpin; it was as silent and serene as the nights when Marilla, soft and warm like jade herself, would sleep peacefully in his embrace. Visit noveldrama.org to read the latest
The lady asked me to return this to you.
No words were spoken, but the return of this token of their love was like a thousand cuts, each one a stab to Jareth’s heart, leaving it battered and bleeding.
With a choked gasp, Jareth’s body lurched forward, his vision plummeting into an abyssal darkness. A taste of iron filled his mouth as blood surged from deep within his lungs and spilled forth.
“Sir!” Lily cried out in alarm.
