Hidden Mafia King and the Fearless CEO

Busted

“Am I obligated to answer your question?” Jenica asked.

Gia’s face tensed, ready to raise her hand to slap Jenica, but Jenica stepped back, avoiding her, and walked away. She heard Gia’s muffled shout behind her but paid no attention. She didn’t understand why they always seemed to cross paths. It’s like they were destined to argue in public places. Gia should be grateful that Jenica didn’t have time to engage in a fight because she never backs down from a confrontation.

But she’ll admit, there’s something off about Gia’s presence that she needs to figure out soon.

Soon enough, she reached the back of the hospital. It was a wide vacant lot with nobody around, but Jenica knew better. The place was filled with discarded medical equipment, and knee-high wild grasses grew around them. Not far away was an abandoned subdivision rumored to be inhabited by unsavory characters.

Jenica didn’t believe in rumors or ghosts because she had seen dead bodies many times, yet none had visited her in her dreams. Besides, in her line of work, there’s no room for cowards or the faint-hearted.

She stood outside the faded and rusty gate, looking at the tracker in her hand. According to it, the boxes of poisonous needles were in the middle of the abandoned subdivision. She smirked.

It seemed like the rumors about activity in that place were just a ruse. “What a smart brain,” she thought before stepping through the rusty gate.

It was almost four in the afternoon, so the sunlight was low, casting shadows on the trees inside and outside the subdivision. The gates of each house were rusty, some even missing doors with broken windowpanes.

Jenica swept her gaze around and noticed marks on the street. The marks of trucks were familiar to her, and she was sure they were the trucks she had been tracking. So she quietly followed the traces and ended up at the old park inside the subdivision.

She quickly hid behind a large trash bin when she heard a car approaching. Her eyes squinted as she saw a familiar car. Wasn’t that Jared’s car parked outside his house? She knew it. This was the right location for the transaction between Jared and his associates inside the hospital. And she also realized that the syndicate sheltering Sham’s twin brother was involved with Jared.

All the answers she was looking for seemed to be with Jared alone. She sighed. HQ didn’t know the location where Jared’s group operated in the capital yet. Maybe the spies and other agents failed to find this place. But why was it so easy for her to find it?

Jenica frowned. There’s something wrong!

“Wife, what are you doing here?” someone suddenly asked behind her.

Jenica’s eyes widened, and she quickly turned around, raising the gun she held. She came face to face with her husband, Alexander Fuego.

Jenica caught her breath and widened her eyes. What is he doing here?!

“What a surprise. Agent J is in the house!” Jared suddenly said as he approached. He even clapped and grinned, shifting his gaze between her and Alex. “Dude, your wife’s too brave and strong. Who knew out of all the HQ agents, she’d be the one to find my hideout? Well, she’s lucky to have you; otherwise, I wouldn’t have shown myself to her,” Jared added.

Jenica clenched her jaw and aimed the gun at Jared. “You’ve committed a number of crimes, Mr. Redcliffe. You are –” She didn’t finish her words when Alex hit her from behind, causing her to lose her balance.

Alex quickly caught her. Jenica raised her head weakly, looking at her husband with a confused expression. She didn’t say anything more before darkness engulfed her vision.

She woke up in a familiar room. It was the master’s bedroom where she last slept five years ago in Alex’s house. Recalling what happened before she lost consciousness, Jenica frowned and jumped out of bed.

But her frown deepened when she realized she was wearing see-through pajamas. If she wasn’t mistaken, Alex changed her clothes to prevent her from leaving the house easily when she woke up. She knew his fetish well. Jenica clenched her fist.

The door suddenly opened, and Alex walked in carrying a tray of sandwiches and juice. “It’s late. Just have a light dinner,” he said.

When she looked out the balcony door, she saw the sparkling city lights. She turned her gaze back to Alex, who was setting the tray on the center table.

“Do you know who I am?” she asked.

Alex glanced at her. “You’re my wife.”

“I’m serious.”

“As am I,” he said, then stood up straight. “I don’t care about what you do for a living, Jenica. But you’re my wife, and no one’s going to change that.”

Jenica stared at Alex for a few seconds. “Tell me how you’re connected to Jared and why you did that earlier,” she asked, referring to him hitting her unconscious in front of Jared.

In fact, she wanted to scratch Alex’s face for what he did, but she held herself back. She didn’t want to cause a scene without knowing his reasons.

She had learned the hard way five years ago, and the challenges she faced as an agent made her patient. Besides, with Alex claiming he had reasons for being with Gia and the revelation that her abandoned son survived and grew up in a harsh environment, Jenica decided to wait for Alex to explain himself before making any decisions.

“Some stuff, but we’re not related other than business,” Alex said, looking at her, “You shouldn’t have gone near that place, Jenica. You exposed yourself too quickly.”

“Because you were there to catch me!” she retorted.

Alex shook his head. “Jared already knew who you are, and I was just protecting you earlier. I’m sorry for hitting you.” He glanced over her shoulder and asked, “How’s your head?”Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

Jenica’s eyes narrowed. “You have the nerve to ask me that?” She scoffed. “Should I hit you and ask if you’re okay?”

Alex scratched the back of his head and urged her to eat something. As he was about to speak, an intercom buzzed. Someone was looking for Alex downstairs.

“It must be Jared,” he said, looking out at the balcony. “You go first. I’ll eat what you brought here.”

Alone in the room, Jenica quickly retrieved the earpiece hidden in her bra and called her assistant.

“Any news about Antonete Enterprise and Fuego Empire?” she asked.

“Still no news from our people, but Fuego Empire has sent invitations for the matriarch’s annual birthday celebration. Important figures will attend, and HQ wants you there too. Our people will be on standby so you can utilize them as you see fit.”

“What’s the catch this time?” she asked, reaching for the glass of milk. She raised an eyebrow. That guy prepared milk for her? Seriously?

Nonetheless, she took a sip.

“HQ wants you to catch Alexander Fuego’s attention and pose as his wife.”

Jenica almost choked on her milk. She coughed, put the cup down, and took a deep breath.

“So I’ll be Seductress J?” she sarcastically asked.

“Our team is struggling to infiltrate Fuego Enterprise, so the head agent assigned this task to you, Agent J.”

Jenica chuckled. What an unusual request! It was the first time she had been tasked with seduction by HQ.

“Fine. But what about Jared and Fuego Empire’s relationship?”

“According to our data, there’s no relationship between these two entities.”

“I see.” Jenica’s eyes narrowed. She wanted to share what she had learned, but something inside her told her not to reveal the relationship between Jared and Alex. “That’s all for now,” she said before ending the call.

She continued sipping her milk, gazing into the distance from the balcony. She didn’t wait long for Alex to return, his face serious.

“What?” she asked, placing the empty glass on the table.

“Nothing.” He looked her over. “You finished your food,” he commented.

“Of course.” She rolled her eyes at him. But Alex just smiled and sat next to her.

“Come with me tomorrow. We’ll shop for grandma’s birthday.”

Jenica raised an eyebrow. “I thought you already bought a gift? Wasn’t Gia with you shopping for grandma’s birthday?”

“I’ll buy you clothes,” Alex said bluntly.

“And are you sure I’ll attend the party with you?” she asked.

“If you don’t want me to look pitiful that evening.”

Jenica sighed. “You know I don’t –”

She didn’t finish her sentence as Alex’s lips met hers. Jenica’s eyes widened, and she was about to push him away when Alex’s hand reached for the back of her head, deepening their kiss.

“I missed you,” Alex whispered between kisses. And he didn’t give her a chance to speak as he continued their interrupted kiss.
