Heartstrings on Fire (Agnes and Jared)

Chapter 730

Chapter 730

Mamie was in high spirits, having indulged in her fair share of wine.

Yet, her tolerance remained the same as it had been four years prior. Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

She couldn’t handle her liquor, but insisted on drinking.

Eventually, she passed out, sprawled across the table.

Ivan shook his head in resignation, “That’s just how she is, gets carried away when she’s having a

good time.”

Agnes retorted, “Knowing Mamie can’t handle her booze, why didn’t you step in?”

Ivan sighed, “It’s okay. She’s been feeling down lately. It’s good to see her let loose and have some fun,

even if it ends with her drunk.”

Agnes wanted to probe further into what had been bothering Mamie. But when her gaze met Jared’s,

he subtly shook his head, signaling her not to ask.

Understanding his gesture, Agnes refrained from asking.

The dinner was coming to an end. Before they parted ways, Ivan turned to Agnes, saying, “Next time,

let me meet your son. Seeing how proud Jared is, I’m growing curious about this little whiz kid.”

Agnes chuckled, “Whiz kid, huh? I’d rather he just be ordinary and happy, to be honest.”

Ivan nodded in agreement, “Going to stay here in Manhattan?”

Agnes pondered, “I’m not sure yet.”

Ivan looked slightly disappointed, “If you could stay, Mamie would be delighted. She’d finally have

someone she could talk to.”

Agnes nodded, “I’ll consider it.”

Ivan drove Mamie home. And Agnes got into the car with Jared.

Jared was driving, but he remained silent throughout the journey. Sensing the tension, Agnes asked,

“What’s wrong?”

Jared finally voiced his concern, “So, you’re planning on staying in Manhattan?”

So that was it.

Agnes replied, “I need to think it over carefully.”

“What’s there to think about? You should come back home now. Surely, we’re not planning on living

separately after we remarry?”

“But Jared, I have my career in Manhattan.”

Jared fell silent hearing it.

Agnes continued, “I love journalism, I love this job, and my life is in Manhattan. I can’t just drop

everything at a moment’s notice. I need time to think it over.”

Agnes had never considered moving back home. Only a month ago, she was making every effort to

avoid Jared. But she hadn’t expected this trip to spark so much change in her life.

Returning home would require considering many factors.

Her career was one thing, but the most critical factor was Nocturne’s sickness.

Jared fell silent for a moment before proposing, “Then I’ll go to Manhattan and live with you.”

“How can you do that? What about your company, your sister, and your father?”

Jared seemed somewhat petulant, “I can’t stand being apart any longer. If you can’t come back to live

with me, then I’ll come to where you are, Agnes, for the rest of our lives, you won’t be able to shake me

off.”

Seeing Jared’s worry, Agnes felt a pang in her heart. She said earnestly, “Give me some time to think it

over. I will come back, but not necessarily right now. I need to find the right time. Besides, I doubt your

sister and father would accept me right now, right?”

Jared’s brows furrowed, “I don’t care whether they accept you or not.”

Agnes said, “Jared, I want to see them again. I was wrong in the past, and I want to apologize to your

sister.”
