Chapter 12 Can’t Understand It
Chapter 12 Can’t Understand It
In the back seat of the car.
Julian leaned back in his chair, he clasped his slender hands on his legs, and lazily shut his eyes.
Sadie sat uptight besides him, unable to relax one bit, with a facial expression filled with anger.
For a while, she kept licking her lips, then said in a mocking tone, "Even the CEO has to come collect
debt, is DHG Group about to close down?"
Julian raised his eyes slightly, then let out an "hmm" in a lazy, relaxed tone.
Sadie was speechless, then she tugged at her sleeves with both hands and stared at him angrily,
"What exactly do you want!"
His silence and "hmm" just now made her feel incredibly frustrated and irritated.
Julian looked at her from the corner of his eyes, then he leaned over and playfully smirked, "What… do
you think, hmm?"
She didn't eat dinner yet, so he wanted to take her to supper, yet she didn’t even appreciate his kind
gesture.
"Is Mr. Mccarthy lacking women?" Sadie raised her hand and pressed against his chest, blocking him
from getting any closer. "Plenty of women out there are willing to serve you head on."
"I'm lacking a wife." Julian glanced down at her hands casually, then smiled, "Sadie, are you trying to
seduce me?"
Sadie blinked, then quickly withdrew her hand; the back of her hand was covered with sweat. "Crazy!"
She must be out of her mind to want to seduce him.
Julian leaned forward further, close enough that he could kiss her lips if he lowered his head. He looked
on with interest at her annoyed expression, but his smile eventually faded.
It was dim inside car, but neon lights flooded in from both sides of the road, and they revealed the look
of fear on her face.
Looking at her, he tried hard to suppress the temptation to kiss her. She was quite an interesting
character; it was obvious that she was afraid of him, but she pretended to be calm.
When she was young, she was very obedient yet shy, probably because she was bullied a lot in the
Chamber’s Family, and it took her a long time to recover during her stay at the Mccarthy Family, but
she still couldn’t get rid of her cowardice.
Forgetting her past completely was probably the greatest gain from such an unfortunate accident. On
the first day when she arrived at Howard’s, she had a nightmare and clutched onto her pillow late in the
night. Even though she was terrified, she did not dare to cry out loud.
Ever since then, she has slept together with him. He was already used to the days when she slept
peacefully in his arms each night. He was used to taking care of and protecting her. He originally
planned that, once she turned eighteen, they would go to the United States to get registered for
marriage, but who knew that what awaited him was six years of segregation without any news.
"Are you done admiring my face yet?" Sadie felt uncomfortable as he kept staring on at her. She
reached out her hand to push him away again, then turning her face away in anger.
She knew she was ugly, but was it really necessary to keep staring at her like this?
"Not yet." Julian gently touched her face, gave it a light squeeze, and then sat back down casually.
Sadie did not dare say anything all night; all she did stare at him in anger. Nutcase! Fool!
The atmosphere dropped into dead silence again, and for a while, no one said a word.
When they arrived at their location, Sadie got out the car. The second she saw the restaurant's sign,
her legs felt weak.
It was an incredibly famous Western restaurant; both the atmosphere and the price was not something
ordinary people could afford.
Needless to say for someone like her, a poor person with nothing.
Julian shut the car door and turned to look at her. "You don’t like it?"
"I don't dare..." Sadie nearly choked. He wasn’t short of money nor women; so why does he act like a
lunatic and keep pestering her?
Was it because she was so ugly that she stood out from the crowed and perked his interest?
Julian looked away, then took long strides towards the restaurant.
Sadie bit her lips and reluctantly followed. Maybe the air-conditioning in the car was too strong, or Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
maybe Julian just had a certain air about him, but she felt a coldness from behind him.
After they got seated, she took one glance at the menu, and a tingly headache started to form. "I don’t
understand it."
Julian raised his eyebrows, then he looked down to hide his surprise. Then he ordered her favorite filet
steak, as well as a foie gras fried steak for himself.
The restaurant service was very fast; before Sadie even thought through on how to cut steak, the
waiter already placed the order before her.
As she held a knife and fork, she had a puzzled look on her face. She has known Otto for years, and
they had been together for four months now. Whenever they dined out, they always went to more
common restaurants, probably because he was afraid of making her feel uneasy, so he never took her
to high-end restaurants.
"Don’t know how?" Julian raised his eyebrows again, then he suddenly remembered what happened on
the first day when he brought her to the Mccarthy Family.
The family’s maid made a steak, and the five-year-old Sadie blushed as she held a knife and fork. Her
big eyes blinked on innocently, as she whispered for help. "Big brother Julian, I don’t know how to use
it..."
The Chamber’s Family mistreated her, so she never even ate at the dinner table. Even though he knew
all this, that day was the first time that he felt sorry for her.
As he remembered this, he calmly said, "Here, I’ll teach you."
Sadie was taken aback; before she could even refuse, Julian’s aura covered over her, and his hands
held hers to show her how to properly use the utensils.
His huge hands were warm, so warm that, subconsciously, she wanted to pull away. She frowned
unhappily, "Let go, I can handle it myself."
"The project manager for the demolition asked me when they can get started today." Julian looked
down at her red ears, and the corners of his lips slightly raised up.
Sadie was in shock and bit onto her lips tightly. Her body felt stiff as she was nearly completely
enveloped by his body, as he taught her how to cut the steak.
He was so close that she could feel his breathing on her ears, and it made her feel all the more
nauseous, but she could only hold it in.
Cutting steak didn't seem that difficult... As soon as he released her hand, she immediately shifted her
seating. She didn’t notice when, but the back of her clothes were wet from sweat.
As she picked up the knife and fork again, she felt as if she was in a trance; it was as if something
suddenly unlocked in her him, and her motions were extremely skillful and elegant.
Julian sat back with a gloomy look in his eyes. Even though her memory was gone, her old habits were
still there, including her habit of licking the corner of her mouth after she was done eating.
Sadie didn’t pay attention to Julian at all; she took her knife and fork to continuously cut the steak and
feed it into her mouth.
Maybe she was over-thinking things, but this current scene felt somewhat familiar. Did she used to live
like this? The sudden thought of this made her subconsciously look over at Julian.
Whenever he looked at her, it always seemed to carry emotions which she didn’t understand. Did he
know about her past?
But that was impossible; she recalled that the head nurse at the hospital said that she was left in a
garbage dump, which meant she was abandoned by her family, then she had a high fever which
caused her memory loss.
Julian was the CEO of DHG Group. From publicly disclosed information, the company was formed 6
years ago, and its registered address was in City B. But little information was available on Julian
himself. All she knew was that he graduated from Wharton School, nothing else.
After she was done eating, Sadie put the utensils on the plate, then picked up a napkin to wipe her
mouth. “I’m full.”
Julian said nothing as he put down his utensils, wiped his mouth clean, then got up.
Standing behind him, Sadie rolled her eyes at him, let out a sigh, and followed silently.
Back inside the car, he didn’t say where they were headed, nor did she ask. Instead, she sat in the
chair in a relaxed manner and looked out the window.
Maybe it was because she didn’t rest well at noon, she began to get sleepy soon after she got in the
car. Before she knew, she fell asleep.
Without any sign or warning, Julian leaned over and lowered his shoulder to prop up her swaying
head.
