Chapter 220: His Last Will
Kylie and Ethan were flirting in the car when, suddenly, the phone rang. Ethan checked the caller ID and took the call. Sitting beside him, Kylie tried to eavesdrop, but all she could hear was, “Hello… Yes… Hmmm… Uhuh… Uhuh,” and then he passed the phone to Kylie.
Ethan met Elliot’s eyes in the rearview mirror and said, “Drive.”
Kylie took the phone and put it in her ear. “Hello,” she said, “this is Kylie. Who am I speaking with?”
“Mrs. Parker,” Duncan replied, “this is Duncan. Please come to the intensive care unit of the central hospital right now. I suspect that Khloe is up to something. You are here as soon as possible,”
Kylie sighed and said, “I’ll be right there. Thank you,”
As Kylie hung up the phone, she looked at Ethan with a worried expression on his face.
“What do you think she has in mind?” Ethan wondered. “Do you think that she has it in her to kill her own father? I know that she is angry about the Oscars, but it seems a stretch, even for her.”
“I just don’t know,” Kylie replied. “I don’t want him to die, though. In spite of everything, he is still my father. I can’t bear in mind killing my own father,”
Ethan took her small hands into his large hands, and his heat calmed her. “We will do what we can,” Ethan said. “Who knows, we may even beat her to the hospital, and all our fears would be for nothing.”
When they got to the hospital, Elliot parked in the underground parking. Kylie and Ethan got out of the car, but Kylie turned to him and said, “Hold on. I would like to go in alone first. Could you wait for me here? If I need you, I will call your cell phone.”
Ethan nodded and kissed her. “I will wait for your call,” He wished Kylie good luck and climbed back into the car.
With the consent of the hospital, Khloe, Alice , and Duncan walked into the intensive care unit. Khloe was wearing an anti-bacterial outfit, as was everyone else. When they got to Laurence’s bed, Khloe touched his hand and said, “Dad… Dad, can you hear me?”Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
There were many instruments connected to Laurence, and his face was pale. Because of the sudden cerebral infarction, he was still unconscious. “Darling…” Alice cried. “You sleep here for now, but get better soon. We all miss you!”
Alice looked like she was going to pass out, so Khloe supported her and helped her to a chair. Khloe whispered a few words into her mother’s ear and then returned to her father’s side. “Dad,” she said, “you’ve gotta shake this off. The company is in shambles without you. Even the executives are running around like chickens with no head. Everybody misses you, even at work!”
No one was sure if Laurence could hear them or not, but nobody was willing to give up or to stop trying. Khloe glanced at Alice and then continued: “Dad, if you don’t wake up, the Garcia Entertainment will disappear from the stage of history.”
Alice looked at her husband and said, “Darling, I hope you can hear Khloe and me.”
Laurence’s finger twitched suddenly, and Alice began to shout excitedly. “Look,” she exclaimed. “His finger twitched. He is going to live, and he must be able to hear you.”
Khloe looked at her father and said, “If it is true that you can hear me, move your finger again!”
Laurence’s finger twitched again, and everyone jumped as if they’d seen a ghost. Even the doctors had seen it this time, so no one could deny it had happened. It was a miracle.
Khloe nodded and looked at Alice . She said, “Mom, my father wrote a will, and you gave it to Duncan. I really wish that he could wake up, live a normal life, and amend his will.”
Duncan looked at them and said, “Now that Laurence is moving, the doctors say that he is out of danger. Be happy. He is on the road to recovery!”
Alice looked at Duncan and thanked him.
Kylie got out of the elevator on the eighth floor, the ICU. She walked down the hall to where she knew her father was. When she got there, though, she was shocked by what she saw. Her father’s room was packed with people.
Everyone turned in unison when they heard Kylie knowing on the door. Khloe explained to the doctors that Kylie was Laurence’s daughter, so they got her suited up and let her in.
As soon as Kylie was admitted in, she rushed to her father’s side and asked them how he was doing.
“Not good,” Khloe lied. “He is able to communicate by moving his finger. Duncan was helping him draft his last will and testimony before it is too late.”
Kylie was shocked. “His last will?” she gasped. “Is he that far gone? I thought it was just his arm that was hurt. How did it progress to this?”
Suddenly Khloe slapped her across the face and said, “This is your entire fault. If you hadn’t made him angry, he would not be in this condition!”
Kylie stepped away and turned to Duncan and said, “He is unconscious. How could a redraft be binding.”
“He is not unconscious,” Duncan replied. “The doctor agrees. He is in this state, not because he is unconscious, but because he is close to death…”
These words hit Kylie like a punch to the stomach, and she couldn’t believe that the last conversation she’d had with her father would be her last. “Give me the will,” Kylie sighed. “Let’s see what father’s last wishes were.”
Duncan held them away from her and said, “The will shall be read before the board at tomorrow’s meeting.”
Suddenly one of the doctors stepped forward and said, “I am sorry, but visiting hours are over. Everyone needs to leave.”
“I just got here,” Khloe complained. “Could I please stay a while longer?”
“Sorry,” the doctor replied. “Rules are rules. No exceptions.”
