Falling For The Contract Bride Chapter 60
Chapter 60
Chapter 60 Was That Your Daughter?
“Don’t fret, Secretary Mu, hang on, or should I say ‘Mrs. Lu’? It’s been a while.”
Xia Shaner fixed her hair alluringly as she spoke.
Mu Zhi glanced at her, “Whatever you want to say, please do it quickly, there’s nothing much to catch up on between the two of us.”
When she worked as Lu Jinye’s secretary, out of all the rumored girlfriends Lu Jinye had, Xia Shaner was the fastest she managed to get rid of.
Moreover, the woman was purely flirting with him. There was no interaction between them except Mu Zhi informing her to stay away from Lu Jinye.
“Were you feeling smug when you told me to stay away from Lu Jinye in the first place? To kick me out as his actual wife?”
“I was just doing my job, as Lu Jinye’s secretary, I was responsible to handle his relationships.”
“Hoho, are you as honorable as you make yourself out to be?”
Xia Shaner chuckled. Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
Mu Zhi was confused by her chuckle.
“What do you want from me?”
“I hope you will apologize to me in public!”
“Huh?”
Mu Zhi instinctively thought she had heard wrong. “Miss Xia, why should I apologize to you?”
She could not comprehend.
Xia Shaner responded boldly, “Because not only did you make Lu Jinye break up with me, but you also made me lose my job.”
“I’m not that influential.”
Mu Zhi figured there must be a misunderstanding lying somewhere. Or perhaps Xia Shaner was trying to extort her.
But Xia Shaner scoffed, showing her disbelief, “Are you going to keep denying?”
“Fine, give me 100 million and I won’t reveal the truth of your identity as Mrs. Lu. Otherwise, I will do it right now.”
In this instance, Mu Zhi was infuriated. She felt she was just wasting her time with the woman.
“Then please publicize it, Miss Xia, there’s nothing else to talk about here.”
Mu Zhi did not even order a coffee. Seizing her beg, she stormed out of the café immediately.
Staring at Mu Zhi’s back, Xia Shaner could only clench her fists fiercely.
Upon her return to the hospital, Mu Zhi thought about searching the net for information about Xia Shaner’s termination. However, she was too busy in the afternoon and did not manage to get to it.
It was time to get off work when she was done with her tasks. She walked to the hospital car park, got in her car, and prepared to leave. However, she had barely hit the road when she felt her brakes were not functioning properly.
Frightened, Mu Zhi quickly tried to stop the car, but the brakes stopped responding completely.
It was at this moment when a cleaner was pushing a cart full of trash bags and crossing the road. At the corner, another car was waiting at the junction. If she could not stopped in time, she would have run into the cleaner.
Without a better choice… Mu Zhi swiftly turned her wheels and ran into a bush of flowers by the roadside.
She instantly felt her head spinning, which was a sign of a mild concussion.
When she was trying hard to analyze the situation, her vision before her obscured.
Moments ago, Lu Junnian noticed Mu Zhi’s car when he got off work and observed an abnormally with Mu Zhi’s car.
Closely after, he witnessed Mu Zhi crashing into the curb up the bushes.
Lu Junnian became gravely worried. He did not hesitate for a second before dashing towards Mu Zhi, “Mu Zhi…”
He shouted her name aloud.
Only to find her eyelids moving but did not open her eyes.
Lu Junnian promptly did a basic routine check on Mu Zhi. After ascertaining that there was no bone fracture, he carried her into his car and revved off, heading back to the hospital hastily.
He brought her straight to the emergency room.
Lu Junnian conducted a thorough check-up on Mu Zhi and was relieved to find out that she only suffered from graze wounds. She had only passed out due to fatigue.
He peered down on Mu Zhi briefly and turned around to leave.
Giving the police a call, he requested them to investigate if Mu Zhi’s car has tampered.
After settling with the procedures, he returned to Mu Zhi’s ward, but she was not awake. He ultimately stayed for the night to keep her accompanied.
In the middle of the night, Jian Xiaoning called. Lu Junnian saw her name and quickly answered it.
Before he could say a word, an adorable little girl’s voice sounded, “Mama, when are you coming home? I miss you.”
The little girl’s voice had just ceased when Jian Xiaoning continued, “Aren’t you supposed to get off work by now? Why aren’t you home?”
“Are you going on a date?”
Jian Xiaoning teased over the phone.
Lu Junnian listened to her words calmly and attentively, “It’s me, Mu Zhi got in an accident, she’s currently unconscious.”
“Huh? Lu Junnian?” Jian Xiaoning’s jaw almost dropped to the floor, “What happened? I… I’ll make arrangements for my daughter and head over to visit Mu Zhi, she’s at your hospital, right?”
Jian Xiaoning was secretly admiring herself for being calm enough to tell a lie for Mu Zhi. It was almost spontaneous to her.
“Nah, that… Was your daughter?”
Lu Junnian frowned and asked suspiciously.
“Yeah, my daughter.”
“I haven’t heard of your pregnancy.”
The little girl’s voice flashed across Lu Junnian’s mind once again.
But Jian Xiaoning responded, “Hahaha, I have a girlfriend too, we went to the sperm bank to get ourselves a seed. Don’t you know that I’m into girls, like you?”
“Oh.”
Lu Junnian did not feel comfortable discussing that topic. He quickly told her that he’d inform her when Mu Zhi was awake, then hung up the call.
Jian Xiaoning heaved a massive sigh of relief after hanging up. Sigh… She even put her reputation on the line for Mu Zhi.
Next up, Mu Zhi had to handle the rest herself.
When she regained consciousness, a nurse came to her for registration.
The nurse was delighted to see her awake, “Dr. Mu, you’re finally awake, Dr. Lu has been worried sick.”
“Lu Junnian?”
Mu Zhi frowned. She subconsciously reached out to caress her head as she felt a slight headache.
The nurse recollected like a starry-eyed bimbo, “Dr. Lu Junnian brought you to the hospital last night, he even stayed by your side through the night. Those who know better will understand that he’s doing a favor for his colleague, but those who don’t might be misled to think that he has a thing for you.”
“Enough, stop your nonsense.”
Mu Zhi promptly interrupted the nurse, “Hurry up and pass me my records, I need to look at my situation.”
The nurse then cooperatively went to fetch her records.
While Mu Zhi recalled the accident that happened yesterday and felt something was odd!
Why did the brakes stop working?
Before she could conclude, the nurse went in and handed her a copy of her records, holding a hand over her mouth in a poor attempt to hide her smile.
It was a strange sight.
“What happened?”
Mu Zhi asked, frowning uncontrollably.
