FALLING FOR A HEARTLESS BETA

CHAPTER 17

=-Amber’s POV=-

“Amber?”

“Yes, Dale?”

“Let’s go home,” he said.

I frowned at him but then I realized that he had every right to take me back home. Just like what he said earlier, I belonged to his household, as his servant, and nothing more.

“Right now?” I asked because I couldn’t just leave without telling my friend, Herlie.

“Yes. Wait, are you scared?”

“You can’t blame me, Dale,” I replied.

“I understand but now that I found you again, I can’t let you get away from me.”

If only he would tell me how much he loved me, then I would be in his arms immediately.

After putting on a white t-shirt, he took his wallet and left the room. He caught up with me at the doorway.

When we arrived at the hotel’s lobby, his driver was immediately there to meet us.

“Can’t you walk faster?” he asked.

“Faster? Why don’t you try wearing these high-heeled shoes, Dale?”

If only he had an idea how much the high-heeled shoes were hurting my feet, then maybe, he wouldn’t demand me to walk faster. Still, I did as I was told, and tried my best to work faster.

When we reached the parking area, his vehicle was already there and waiting for us. The car’s door was already opened for both of us, and Dale let me go inside first. Then, he gave some instructions to his driver.

I was only gone for a few days but Dale acted like a totally different person. He seemed different from the Dale that I used to. Right now, he appeared to be bossy for his own good, and he was even bossier than Alpha Jacob.

Was it normal for the Beta to act too high and mighty when the Alpha wasn’t around?

In less than an hour, I was back at his mansion, where he lived alone. If only he would bring in more servants to help me with the household words, but he seemed to be having fun while watching me working so hard to maintain his place.

“Come in, Amber. I will show you where your bedroom is,” he said, trying to be so hospitable at the moment.

When he noticed that I was reluctant to follow him, he grabbed my wrist and dragged me into the grand staircase leading to the second floor of his abode.

“My fault. Sorry,” he said, and then he started descending the stairs.

“What do you mean? Where are you going?” I asked in bewilderment.

“To the servant’s quarter where you belonged,” he replied in a menacing tone.

“Are you serious right now?” I asked Dale because he could be joking.

Since he took me to live with him, he made it sure that my room would be comfortable, especially at night. My old room was spacious enough for a king-sized bed, and the large window was overlooking the nearby ocean.

“Yes. I had been nice to you, Amber, but what did you do? You escaped in the middle of the night; endangering the baby whose living inside your womb!”

“Why do you care about the baby? You even suggested that the pregnancy should be terminated, Dale!”

“Enough of this foolish discussion. Once you are settled in the maids’ quarter, go to bed early. I know you are tired, and tomorrow, you will be busy,” he cautioned me.

“Busy about what? Are they coming again?”

“Jacob will come soon to visit me, Amber,” he replied.

Once, I visited the maid’s quarter to clean the rooms but the living space was small, just enough for a single bed, and nothing else. As we continued to walk side by side toward the maids’ quarter, I silently prayed that Dale would change his mind once again.

“You can use this room,” he said when we reached our destination.

“As in here?”

My question sounded like a complaint to his ears, so I didn’t wonder when he glared at me. Well, it was really a complaint. What’s the point of bringing me back into the mansion when he would let me sleep in a tiny room?

It’s a very small room with just a single bed and no mattress. Just the bed frame and one pillow. Not even a blanket.

“If you don’t want to be here, you can be in my room…and become my whore once again. However, I would appreciate it if you will refuse my invitation, Amber. Who knows how many men have you slept with when you leave here?”

“Dale, why are you so cruel to me?”

“You call this cruelty, Amber? Then, you don’t know what the word really means,” he said. “Let’s share my bedroom if you want to,” he teased her.

When he wouldn’t stop teasing me into sleeping with him again, I immediately crossed my arms on my chest especially when his eyes wouldn’t stop scrutinizing my body.

“Are you a sex maniac, Dale?” I asked him in disbelief.

“You know that I am not a sex maniac, Amber. If there’s someone who’s always horny whenever we are together, it is you,” he said.

“Bastard,” I snapped at him. “Anyway, what will be my job now? Is it the same as before? Should I work as your all-around maid who has no day off and is required to please you in bed?”

“Minus the bed, Amber. Right now, I can’t imagine myself sleeping with someone like you,” he insulted her.

For a moment, I was confused by his statement. Somehow, it felt like an insult but there was something in his eyes when he said those words. Was it desire or malice?

“All around maid,” he announced.Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.

“Alright,” I agreed since it wouldn’t be hard to work as an all-around maid with him. “By the way, you have a lot of money, Dale.”

“Yes, I have,” he replied.

“So, why don’t you get a lot of household help to work here?” I inquired out of curiosity.

“I think I have already told you my reason, Amber. I am a private person,” he said.

“And your point is?”

“My point is, I don’t need a stranger who would possibly gossip about me when I am not around,” he replied.

“Who would dare to gossip about the Beta? I don’t think anyone is capable of doing that, Dale.”

“We will never know, Amber. Do you want anyone else to know that you gave me the liberty to use your body anytime? That I am the one who made you pregnant? Nobody should know about the truth except for Alpha Marcus,” he reminded her.

“What if he will wake up one day?” I asked worriedly because the moment Alpha Marcus would wake up, I would be the first person he would look for.

“I doubt it will happen in the next few years,” Dale said confidently.

“What makes you so confident that he wouldn’t wake up, Dale? What did you do?”

“Oh, nothing dangerous, but with his current state, it would be impossible for Alpha Marcus to wake up, Amber. It’s good for us if he wouldn’t wake up forever,” he told her.

“Y-yeah, but I don’t want you to become a murderer, Dale.”

“A murderer? I didn’t kill him! He has a disease, and that’s the reason why he collapsed that day!”

“Still, it was you who triggered it!”

“Are you sure about it, Amber? In case you have forgotten about what happened, should I fill you in on the details?”

“Never mind, Dale. If I am allowed, can take a rest now? I am tired,” I told him because he has become a chatterbox, and if he wouldn’t stop talking, I wouldn’t be able to sleep.

He smirked in response.

“What? Are you not going to let me sleep? I am tired, Dale,” I informed him.

“What makes you so tired, Amber? We didn’t do anything yet, so don’t tell me that you have become weak. I have always known you as a strong person, so going to sleep at this time is really unbelievable,” he said.

“So, what about it?”

“After you change your clothes, come outside to the pavilion. Let’s have coffee there,” he proposed.

“Having coffee at this time, Dale is inappropriate. Can we just do it next time? I am really tired,” I continued to tell him a lie, hoping that he would buy it, but it seemed he didn’t believe me even a little.

“Alright, if you are tired, go to sleep now. I will see you again in the morning,” he said.

“Why would you see me again in the morning? I know this place by heart, Dale. I can accomplish my work without your supervision,” I told him that it wasn’t necessary to check on me first thing in the morning.

“I insist,” he said.
