Don't Try to Escape, My Wife!

Chapter 1644 Thank You

Chapter 1644 Thank You

Aron suppressed the pain he felt inside.

It seemed impossible for Aron and Morty to speak nicely to each other this life. After all, the death of

Morty’s mother was always a pain in Morty’s heart.

Aron suddenly seemed weak and defeated.

He sighed and said, “I wasn’t sure what happened to Laurence. My order for Tracy was for her to

pretend as a successor of the Close family. She had to do something to gain their trust. Perhaps killing

Laurence was one of it.”

Morty thought Aron was going to be furious, but Aron calmed himself after he got enraged. Morty felt

strange.

Morty paused and frowned.

“Why did they want Laurence dead?”

“Maybe they didn’t want Laurence to join our side?”

Morty scoffed at what Aron said.

“And you believed that?”

Aron shook his head and said, “Nobody knows why Close family asked Dr. Miller to come out with

Laurence, an experimental human. Samuel told us that it was because the Close family wanted to draw

the other countries to their side, but no one could confirm what they’re up to. We’ve only known that the

successor of the Close family exists, but no one had ever seen them before. Other than Nick and

Martin, the other successors seemed to be hidden in the dark. After Tracy released the news, Nicole’s

people stopped it before my people even get to it. So, I didn’t know many details of the operation.”

Morty frowned hard.

“Nicole’s son went missing. Why can’t she do that?”

“I wasn’t blaming her, but Tracy isn’t the one she should be watching.”

“Then who she should watch?”

Morty felt like he was getting near to the answer, but Aron stopped talking.

“They are all people you can’t go against regardless of who it is. So, Morty, you have to work really

hard if you wanted to stay in my position. Samuel passed all his assets to Nicole, but recently, he had

been transferring his assets overseas. He was worried that people would get envious of his

possessions. Why can’t you think of the obvious reason when Samuel already thought of it?”

It was what Aron did all the time. He won’t make things clear, but instead, he wanted Morty to figure

things out himself.

Sometimes, Morty wondered if Aron would still train him like he did if he was dumb.

“Can’t you tell me directly?”

“No.”

Aron then left the room. Morty was left alone.

Morty thought he was going crazy.

Why did he have a father like Aron?

Suddenly, an idea stroked Morty’s mind.

Usually, Aron would chase Morty out of the room, but this time, Aron left Morty in the room, alone. Did

Aron leave something in the room for Morty to find out?

Morty quickly searched around on Aron’s desk. There wasn’t anything else other than some books and

a notebook. The ink on the notebook hadn’t even dried out yet.

There were two words on the paper.

Shaffer and Neo. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.

Could it be a clue from Aron?

The Shaffer and the Neo family?

The Shaffer family was now only second to the Hill family. They were also eyeing Aron’s position. But

the Neo family? Didn’t they got doomed after what happened to Yanice? The rest of the Neos weren’t a

threat at all. Did Morty overlook anyone he should be noticing?

Morty felt like his brain juices were drained.

Morty wanted to leave the study room quickly, but he saw Kenny standing at the door. Kenny said

respectfully, “Have a good day, Mr. Morty.”

Morty squinted his eyes. He stared at Kenny and asked, “Uncle Kenny, your surname is Shaffer. Am I

right?”

“Yes.”

Kenny nodded.

Morty was immediately alarmed.

The Shaffer Aron wrote. Was Aron talking about Kenny?

Morty then recalled that Kenny was the one who helped Aron mostly in giving instructions. No one

would notice anything if Kenny wanted to do anything using Aron’s name. But would Kenny do that?

Rumour had it that Kenny almost became crippled from saving Aron. Kenny would still feel the pain in

the spots he injured whenever it rained.

Would a person like this betrayed Aron?

When Morty thought about Kenny’s grandchildren and other benefits Kenny might get, Morty became

uncertain.

Morty glanced at Kenny, then left the place.

Kenny locked the door after Morty left. When he turned around, he saw Aron stood still behind him and

was staring in the direction Morty left.

“Did he suspect you?”

“Yes.”

Kenny answered calmly.

Aron looked at Kenny and sighed, “Thank you.”

“It’s my fault. I’ve some bad seeds in the family and I have to trouble you to help me in getting rid of

them.”

At last, pain flashed in Kenny’s eyes.

Aron stared at Kenny, then he patted Kenny’s shoulder, “We’re old now, and the kids have grown up.

It’s their choice I choosing what path they wanted to take. They’ll have to face whatever comes next.

Everyone has to be responsible for their choice regardless of right or wrong. So, stop blaming yourself.

Let bygones be bygones.”

“I understand. It’s just that I’m worried about my poor granddaughter.”

Kenny’s eyes were filled with tears, but he didn’t let them rolled down his cheek.

Aron consoled Kenny softly, “Don’t worry, Nicole is going to bring her back.”

“She is?”

Kenny became a little excited.

It’s not easy to stir up Kenny’s emotions. However, Kenny was clearly excited about what he heard.

“Yes, she is. Nicole is a trustworthy and reliable friend. Furthermore, your granddaughter wouldn’t still

be alive without Nicole.”

Kenny nodded after hearing what Aron said. His voice was shaking, “It was indeed so lucky for my

granddaughter to meet her.”

“Same goes to her.”

Aron and Kenny then walked away from the study room as they chattered about what the others didn’t

understand.

A person who hid in the dark informed Morty what he heard from Aron and Kenny.

Morty frowned.

Kenny’s granddaughter?

Could it be Tracy?

But Tracy’s surname wasn’t Shaffer.

Suddenly, Morty recalled that Kenny’s daughter-in-law’s surname was the same as Tracy’s. So, was

Tracy really Kenny’s granddaughter?

If that was the case, it meant that Tracy wouldn’t harm Nicole but help her instead.

Morty quickly summoned Lucas after he concluded everything.

“Text your mother and tell her Alison’s real identity. Also, tell her to check if Tracy knows anything about

Eaton’s whereabouts.”

“You’ve got news on my brother?”

Lucas became excited.

But Morty shook his head.

“Not at the moment, but soon. Inform your mother first. Don’t keep her waiting.”

“Alright.”

Lucas then texted Nicole immediately.

Nicole was startled when she learned about Alison’s real identity.

She would never expect that the ordinary Alison was a Shaffer, the heir of the famous military family.
