Chapter 16
Title: Shopping
Maybelline Walter POV
“Thanks for the other day, Mr. Miguel,” Lily smiled at Miguel.
“Hmm,” Miguel just hummed and nodded, his face not leaving the road as he drove down the driveway. Lily was seated beside Miguel in the front seat, and I was in the backseat with Miles.
“Are you ok?” My heart missed a beat when Miles held my hand and asked the gentlest voice ever, and I slowly nodded. Everything he does makes my heart awkwardly flutter.
“Mr. Miguel…”
“Just call me Miguel,” Miguel cut Lily off, and she slowly nodded.
“Miguel… Uhm… Do you mind going out on a date with me tomorrow? We could just hang out at the restaurant and you know, get to know ourselves,” I almost choked on my spit when Lily boldly said that to Miguel. For goodness sake, why the fuck has my friend chosen to embarrass me in this manner?
“Lily…” I whispered, but Miles held my hand firmly and when I looked at him, he shook his head for me to leave them be.
“No, I’m not interested,” Miguel replied to her coldly, and I facepalmed myself. It felt like I was the one that just got rejected. She just fucking gave me the secondhand embarrassment of my life.
“Come on, Miguel… That’s rude,” It’s crazy how Lily could hold her confidence together and talk to Miguel like nothing happened. At that moment, the only thing I wanted was to disappear from the car because it felt so awkward.
“We can all go together. Was thinking of going on a date with my wife tomorrow too. We could all go to the same restaurant, or what do you think, Ms Lily?” Miles spoke out of the blue moon, and I looked at him.
“Really?” Lily looked at us and smiled excitedly.
“Hmm,” Miles nodded.
“I have things to do tomorrow, so I won’t be able to…”
“You can always postpone whatever you have to do. Ms. Lily is our in-law, so you should not be rude to her,” Miles cut him off, leaving me stunned. The miles I knew from time would never be this way with anyone, and it’s only getting crazier.
“Thank you, in-law,” I scoffed silently when Lily said that. For goodness sake, this girl would kill me before my time.
The car finally pulled over in front of the mall, and I quickly alighted. It felt like a burden had just been lifted off my shoulders as the fresh air graced me.
Lily alighted and came to stand beside me.
“That was crazy, I hope you know that, babe?” I cursed at her silently, and she rolled her eyes.
“I go for what I want, sweetheart. I’m not like you. I like Miguel, and I’m going to get him at all costs,” She turned and smirked at me, and I briefly sighed. I had almost forgotten the kind of crazy girl Lily was. This is who she is right from high school where I knew her, so I shouldn’t have expected less.
“Lily…”
“Don’t waste your time with me, sweetheart. Your husband is waiting,” She winked at me and walked over to meet Miguel who had just alighted from the car.All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
“I think your friend likes my brother…” My heart almost jumped out of my chest when Miles’s voice sounded behind me. I turned swiftly but collided with his hard chest, so I quickly stepped away from him.
“I like her courage. She knows what she wants, and she’s going for him,” He smiled as he tucked his hands inside his pockets, and the only thing I could do was nod my head.
“Ye… yeah,” I laughed nervously and quickly walked ahead of him.
The cold air conditioner graced us as we walked into the biggest mall in the city. It was literally my first time going to the place, and I could only say ‘wow’ because it really deserved it.
“Miguel, I think you should go with Ms. Lily to buy your clothes. Women know good clothes for men. I will go to the other section with May,” Miles uttered as he held my hand, and I couldn’t help but notice the look of betrayal on Miguel’s face.
Miles could only care less and led me away to the female section of the mall.
“Good day, Mr. Miles. It’s nice to meet you again. It has been a while,” An old lady in her forties came to welcome us, and I presumed she was the attendant here.
“Yes, it has been a while. How have you been, Ms. Penelope?” Miles’s face was straight with no hint of emotion or friendliness in it like he was in a fight with the lady or something. And wait! Did he just call her Ms? Is she not married? I asked myself.
“I would like to get clothes for my wife,” Miles uttered as he held my hand and smiled at me weirdly. I looked at the woman, and the expression on her face wasn’t welcoming at all, and at that moment, I knew something was wrong. It couldn’t be that she had a crush on Miles, right? She looked older than him for goodness sake.
“Age is just a number. Anyone can have a crush on anyone regardless of age,” My subconscious mind reminded me, and I briefly sighed.
“Oh… I had no idea you got married. How come nobody knew about it?” The lady asked after she gave me a long disgusting stare as if I was a piece of shit.
“That’s because I didn’t invite you to my wedding,” He smirked at the lady, and she slowly nodded.
“I don’t have all the time in the world. Can you attend to us already or do you want me to call the manager?” Miles’s voice sounded cold this time as he glared hard at the lady, and she quickly nodded.
“This way,” She turned to me hesitantly and said.
“We are your customers, so, you need to treat my woman with respect,” Miles said to the Penelope lady.
“You can’t look my woman with those eyes,” He further said, and she quickly bowed.
“Forgive me, Mr. Miles,” She apologized immediately.
“I’m not the one you should be apologizing to,”
“Forgive me, ma’am,” She hesitantly bowed to me, and I nodded awkwardly. Why was Miles being mean, please?
“This way, ma’am,” She finally led me to the fitting room after we selected a few clothes for me to try on.
I wore the first short white flowery gown that stopped some inches above my knees and a pair of heels.
Miles’s jaw dropped and his mouth opened when I stepped out of the fitting room to go show him how the dress looked on me since that’s how it’s done. I mean, it was him that came to buy me clothes, so curtsey demands that I showed him, yeah?
“This is… This is so gorgeous,” he gushed over the dress, flattering me.
“But… I don’t think we should buy heels for you,” He uttered, and I raised my eyebrows confusingly.
“Why?” I questioned him, and he just shrugged.
“It’s going to make your feet hurt, and you are also hyper-acidic, so you need to be mindful of the kind of dress you wear too,” now, this sounded like just an excuse because the last time I checked, being hyper-acidic had literally nothing to do with the kind of shoe the patient wears.
“Could it be that he found out about the pregnancy?” My subconscious reminded me, and now that I got the pieces together, I couldn’t help but become worried that he knew about it. I mean, I’ve only heard that pregnant women are not adviced to use heels, and this was becoming logical.
“It’s not possible. He would’ve confronted you if he knew about it. Don’t be silly,” A part of me dismissed the thoughts immediately because there was a high chance of it not being true.
For the sake of my baby, I didn’t bother to further ask him any questions for his reasons, so I agreed and went for flast shoes instead.
After that, I tried a few clothes on and he was impressed with everything.
We were finally done here, and after he made payment for the clothes, we left to go meet Miguel and Lily.
“Where could they be?” I asked as I looked around the big mall when we got to the lobby, but with the crazy number of people present in the mall, I knew no way I could get a glimpse of them.
“Don’t you think we should go ahead and leave them to do their thing?” Miles asked out of the blue moon, and I raised my eyebrows.
“But why?” I asked as I blinked my eyes cluelessly.
“This is the time for your friend to show her affection to my brother. We shouldn’t disturb them. Come on, let’s go,” He held my hand again, and I bit my inner bottom lip. If anyone ever told me that Miles had this soft side, I wouldn’t have ever believed it, but here he was, making my heart flutter with everything he does. I don’t want to fall in love with this man, please…
