Chapter 1700
Lila spoke coolly. "Well, since no one ever mentioned it to you, now you know. Jamie, when you used to work in the service industry, weren't you well aware of these things? So why is it that now, after being with Ben, you've changed so quickly? Forgetting where you came from this fast is something else." Jamie had insisted on handling this meeting with Lila herself. Even though Ben had dropped her off and wanted to accompany her inside, she had stopped him at the door.
And now, it was clear. Lila, seeing Jamie alone, felt free to mock and humiliate her without restraint.
Jamie stood abruptly, her presence suddenly intense. "Lila, do you know why I'm here today?"
Lila sneered dismissively. "I couldn't care less about your intentions. But since you're here, you should remember one thing I'm your client."
"Client?" Jamie couldn't help but laugh at that. "Did we finalize a partnership? You seem to have forgotten that just as you can choose not to work with me, I also have the right not to work with you."
She was done tolerating Lila's arrogance. Jamie had expected Lila to tone it down, at least until after the deal was sealed. But clearly, Lila had no intention of holding back from the start.
If that was the case, Jamie saw no reason to continue being polite. "Since you have no interest in a serious discussion, then there's no reason for me to stay here any longer."
Her voice turned cold. "Lila, the next time we cross paths, if you choose to target me, don't expect me to let it slide. And you'd better leave yourself a way out."
With that, Jamie turned and walked out without looking back.
What she hadn't expected was to see Ben walking in as she reached the door.
His eyes were sharp and filled with cold fury, and Jamie knew exactly what he intended. Ben was here to confront Lila.
That day, he had given Lila plenty of leeway and refrained from causing trouble. But now, with Lila harassing Jamie, he wasn't going to let it go.
A mocking smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "You went through all this trouble to discuss a partnership just so you could make my wife's life difficult? Why stop now?"
Lila froze, her face paling. She hadn't expected Ben to step inside, let alone confront her directly.
The oppressive energy radiating from him was suffocating.
Trying to recover, she forced herself to

But she couldn't meet Ben's gaze.

Ben didn't give her a chance to wiggle out of it. His voice dripped with sarcasm. "You call this a work issue? Where's the challenge? What's so complicated about this project? Is it some kind of major national initiative?"
"I..." Lila faltered, her breath catching.
She had intended to make things hard for Jamie, but things had backfired spectacularly. Jamie hadn't reacted the way she expected, and now Ben was standing in front of her, making her

"What? Are you going to claim we misunderstood you? That we're mistaken about your intentions?" Ben stepped closer, his gaze menacing.
Lila panicked and raised her hands defensively, thinking he might actually hit her. "Don't hit me! Please don't hit me!"
Watching Lila cower like this, Jamie found the scene absolutely ridiculous.noveldrama
