Chapter 76
A few minutes later, Rose walked towards the dining table where she met Beatrice, Sophia and William sitting on their respective seats.
As usual she walked towards the seat at the end of the table opposite William who was sitting at the head to table.
The three stare at Rose with different thoughts running in their mind as they watch her walk towards them with a calm and collected demeanor and take her seat.
"Good evening, father." Rose greeted William after sitting down.
William nodded his head without saying anything. Beatrice quickly gestured to the maids to serve the food and they all left, leaving the four people alone.
No one said anything to each other and started digging into their food. Rose was the only one who wasn't eating like the others and it was because her stomach was still filled with the food she had eaten with Alex and his friends.
"So, Rose. How was the exam you took today?" William asked, breaking the silence at the dining tables.
"It went well. I thought my stepmother would have told you about it and I was expecting some gifts from you father." Rose calmly replied while glancing at William.
"I don't understand? If your mother knew, she would have told me, that's why I'm asking you." William raised a confused brow at Rose and also took a peek at Beatrice.
"No. Did mother tell you that she didn't know as well because I'm sure Headmistress Moore already called Stepmother and told her about my results." Rose shook her head. She was already a hundred percent sure that Headmistress Moore had called Beatrice this after. Hearing her words, Beatrice raised her head and looked at Rose with a dark expression. It was true, Headmistress Moore had called her and told her about the results Rose got and it was also one of the reasons why she had been quiet because her plan was ruined. "Sweetie, is what Rose is saying true?" William turned to look at his wife. For now he felt that Rose was saying the truth since Beatrice was very close with the headmistress.
"Honey, I'm sorry I should have informed you when you came home, it slipped my mind. According to my friend she said that Rose performed really well today in the exam." Beatrice quickly came up with an excuse and turned to look at Rose. "Rose, dear. I'm sorry for not informing your father earlier so that he could have got you a gift. It's just that I had a lot of things in mind." She added with an apologetic smile on her face.
"No, no, you don't have to apologize, mother. Rose understands it's not your fault and I can get a gift anytime I want." Rose quickly waved her hand and smiled sweetly at Beatrice. She just really loves messing with Beatrice sometimes.
"Rose, I'm very proud of you. Don't worry, after dinner tell me whatever you want and daddy will get it for you tomorrow." Not wanting to dwell on the case, William added. However he had reason for being overly nice to Rose because he knew those people would soon hear about appearance in the country and would come knocking on his door to take her away. If he was being nice to Rose it would be hard for her to leave when that time comes.
"Really, father?" Rose had an excited look o5her face when she heard William. Although she didn't know what he was thinking, she planned to use this to her advantage.
"Your father doesn't lie. Ask whatever you want." William nodded his head.
Sophia who was listening to everything without uttering a word gritted her teeth in anger. She had been boiling in rage ever since she heard that Rose did well in the exam today and now William was offering to buy her whatever she wanted.
Rose secretly stole a glance at Sophia and smirked before looking at William. "In that case, I already know what I want. Can I say it now?" She asked and William nodded his head.
"Father, I want a car." She suddenly said, making everyone turn to look at her.
"Why would you need a car when we already have a garage in the mansion?" It was Beatrice who asked, while raising a brow at Rose.
"Besides, I heard from one of the maids that you went out today using public transportation. Rose, it's dangerous to go out there all by yourself without taking anyone along with you." Beatrice added, the maid she was talking about was none other than Mary who had informed her when she arrived home.
William turned to look at Rose when he heard Beatrice. "Is that true Rose? Why did you take public transportation when you wanted to go out? Besides, you just arrived back in the country, it is dangerous and you get lost on your own." He also remarked and scolded Rose
in a gentle voice, since he was avoiding being harsh with her.
Rose bent her head slightly. "That is
not what happened, father. I didn't originally plan to take public transportation out today. Earlier, when we had closed from school, I overheard Sophia telling her friends that they were going out so I told Sophia I would love to go out with her and she agreed. She said she'd let me know when she was going but when I got downstairs the maids told me that Sophia had left so I had no choice but to order for an Uber driver to take me out." She slowly explained, stylishly drawing Sophia into the picture. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
Both Beatrice and Sophia's face paled when they heard Rose. First of all, Beatrice had no idea about this and she didn't bother to ask Sophia about it when Mary told her. She couldn't believe that she had just shot herself in the foot. She was planning to let Rose get scolded but didn't realize that her daughter was the one who caused it all.
Sophia on the other hand paled and became nervous when she heard Rose. She didn't think Rose would push everything back on her immediately like that. This crazy fool.' she sneered in her heart.
