13. She Has To Do Something
About a week later, Lucinda was now at home but in a wheelchair, the doctor had said she will be needeing a wheelchair for the time being. A woman was specifically employed to be taking care of her.
Lily had not gone to check on Lucinda since she was back from the hospital and that was because she knew the woman doesn’t like her and that it was Amelia that she liked. she also got to found out that Lucinda was pressuring Drake Bell to have Amelia as his wife.
While Drake Bell was dressing up for work, infact, he was already done wearing his suit and was at the moment, tieing the lace of his shoe. The voice of the nurse employed specially for Lucinda suddenly rang loud, calling into Drake Bell as a matter or urgency.
Drake Bell removed his legs at once from the shoes and immediately wore a slippers then walked out, “Larisa, what’s the matter?” Larisa was the name of the nurse.
“Mrs. Lucinda has lost consciousness, seems she made an attempt to commit suicide,” she reported fearfully.
“Suicide?” Drake Bell rushed towards Lucinda’s room and on entering, she saw that Lucinda had cut her wrist. It was a bloody sight, why in the world will his mother be trying to commit suicide?
He immediately called the ambulance and in a jiffy, she was carried away. Drake Bell stood with concern written all over his face. He wondered if his mom would make it.
He went back inside to take to get dressed then went out for work. When it was break period, he went to visit his mother at the hospital after being told that she barely survived. On getting by her side, Drake Bell spoke quickly, “mom, I’m so glad you make it.” He said this while placing his palm softly on her forehead.
“Drake…” The woman mumbled sadly, her petite eyes were already litered with tears. Drake Bell had thought that the mental imbalance of his mom had made her hurt herself so he did not bother asking why she would make an attempt to hurt herself.
“Mum, you are fine now and we’ll go home soon,” he squatted and even kissed her on her forehead.
“You didn’t even ask me why I almost commit suicide?”
“Mom, did you have a reason for that?” Drake Bell asked.
“Since you refuse to listen to me, what’s the point of living,” she said and looked away from him.
Drake Bell thought on her words for the next few seconds wondering which of her words he had refused to listen to.
“You clearly don’t regard me, Drake. Is it because of my mental illness?” Lucinda asked with tears now streaming down her face.
“Mom, you are fine and there is nothing wrong with you,” Drake Bell held Lucinda’s palm in a comforting manner. “What did you want of me, mom?”
“You know. Don’t pretend like you don’t and honestly, if you still refused, then my death will be on you.”
“Is it about Amelia?” Drake Bell asked thoughtfully.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
“What else could it be about?” She asked pathetically and then looked at his face, “Please do it, Drake.”
The world has moved pass the days where parents force their children to marry, now his mother wasn’t just forcing him but was also threatening him with her life. She even had to make an attempt to commit suicide just because of that. What sort of affection could she have towards Lily that she really wanted him to marry her ?
Yes, Amelia was his childhood sweetheart. Infact, he made a lot of promises to Amelia when they were young and dating. But many things had changed over the years, he had moved on since but turns out Amelia hasn’t.
“I will marry her,” Drake Bell succumbed.
“I won’t just believe your words alone, you have to prove it,” Lucinda said with a gentle tone.
“I’ll see her parents tomorrow, you can call her tomorrow evening to confirm. We will immediately start working towards our engagement. You don’t have to hurt yourself again, mom.” Drake Bell said assuredly.
Only then did a smile graced Lucinda’s lips. She suddenly felt satisfied. Actually, she had made an agreement to Lily’s mom at the time when young Lily and young Drake were dating that her son will definitely marry Lily.
All Mila had to do was to keep reminding Lucinda to fulfil her promise.
The following day, while Lily was busy at work, she got a message from Amelia that reads, “guess who just got engaged to Drake Bell?”
Lily paused what she was doing and stared at her screen for a few seconds. Was she just bluffing or was Drake Bell actually engaged to her? Not like this should be her business but the fact that she was living in Drake Bell’s house already made any of his actions her business.
Lily then ignored the message but planned on confirming later. About a few minutes later, a message chirped on her phone, seeing that it was Amelia again, she read the content that stated, “I’m so happy Drake Bell and I are now engaged. Our parents will be fixing a date for our wedding this night.”
Still, Lily ignored. About thirty minutes later, her call came through. Lily then answered it and spoke before she could even say a word, “Amelia, did you realize that you are actually disturbing me?”
“Huh? You are so full of yourself. There is no big deal sharing my happiness with you unless of course, you are jealous.”
“Jealous?” She scoffed. “We are not friends so I’m not the right person to be sharing your so called happiness with. If you really don’t have anyone to share your happiness with, go to the street and start telling everyone passing that Drake Bell proposed to you.”
Amelia gritted her teeth in anger from the other end, “Lily, Drake Bell is officially my boyfriend now, you should move out of the house.”
“Is it your house? Tell your so called fiancee to tell me to move out of the house.” Then Lily hung the call up.
Indeed, if Drake Bell got engaged to Lily then it’s just reasonable for her to leave Drake Bell’s house. She never really wished to live there in the first place, she was actually being forced to live there. Perhaps, she could use this opportunity to get out of the house with her kids.
When Lily got home that day, she went over to Drake Bell’s study room and was allowed to enter.
“Have your sit,” Drake Bell gestured.
“Thank you but that won’t be necessary. Congratulations on your engagement to Amelia,” Lily said.
Drake Bell furrowed his brow in shock. He had instructed his personal assistant to ensure that his news of engagement to Amelia wasn’t made public. How in the world did Lily find out?
“Who informed you?” Drake Bell asked.
“The walls have ears.” She answered, “it’s proper for me to leave this house. I won’t want to have problem with your girlfriend.”
Drake Bell hummed and rested well on the seat, “why do I feel like you are jealous?”
“Jealous?” Lily scoffed. “You actually used the word ‘jealous’ for me?” She scoffed even harder, “I bet you have no idea how much I loath you. You don’t.”
She added, “I’m leaving this house today with my kids and please don’t stop us. Your girlfriend can already move in.”
“I’m not married to Amelia yet, it’s just an engagement.”
“Engagement leads to marriage, Drake Bell and honestly, I don’t have problem with that. I even expected you to have remarried in the past few years,” Lily said.
“Leaving is not an option, Lily. You were mine and you will always be mine.” Drake Bell said and added, “if Amelia tries to make trouble for you, let me know. Plus I’ll ensure she doesn’t come here unannounced so you have nothing to worry about.”
Lily hated the fact that she didn’t have enough power to leave this house. She’s been forced to live here against her will and this in all honesty, can not continue. She has to do something that definitely doesn’t include running away.
