Chapter 22 Call the police
Anya's POV:
Looking at them, I sneered. 'Did they think that I was easy to bully!'
After being a single mom for years, if I didn't even know how to protect myself, then how I will be able to protect my children? So, I always carried a tapered the size of a lighter in my pocket.
"How dare you taser me?" Evan asked fixed his murderous eyes on me as if a falcon was targeting his prey.
I staggered back a little, but still, I managed to calm myself down. "It was self-defense. If you come at me again, I will call the police!"
Evan snorted with angry laughter. "Call the police? Well, go ahead!"
Of course, I know, how can he, as the number one man in X city, how can he be afraid of the police?
To put it bluntly, even the local government needed the support of the Carter family! Even if the police came, they would side with Evan! "Don't be angry, Evan. Anya don't mean to..."
However, before Tina could finish her sentence, Evan scoffed, "It's none of your business. This is between her and me!"
"Rose." I called out to the door.
Then, Rose, my assistant, pushed the door open and came in. "Yes, Miss Walter?"
"Call the police immediately. Tell them there is trouble here!"
"I see!"
"Oh, you have gone too far, Anya Walter!" Evan cried.
Looking at Evan's angry expression, I scoffed.
Even though Evan was not afraid of cops, given his personality, I know he didn't want to be bothered at all.
Especially now at this critical moment when reporters were still downstairs. If he was taken away by cops, it would affect his reputation.
Till now, I have completely calmed down. Then, I said coldly, "If you don't mind making a scene, let's go to the police station together! Doctors will know if I had really assaulted Tina. If I pushed her, there would certainly be my fingerprints on her dress! Anyhow, we will find out the truth soon!"Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
Then, I turned and looked at Tina coldly, took out the recorder from my pocket, and said, "I have recorded everything you just said to me. If you don't mind, I will play it right now so that we can all hear the conversation!"
It was true that I like to carry a tiny recorder all the time! But everything happened too soon, and I didn't have the chance to turn it on.
Still, under the circumstances, even though the recorder had recorded nothing, it was enough to protect me. At least, Tina would not dare to tell more lies.
However, I know Tina must not want Evan to listen to what she had just said to me. After all, if Evan heard that, the innocent maiden image she had maintained for many years, would be ruined in an instant.
And as I expected, hearing my words, Tina's face turned pale.
"Forget it, Evan. I am fine, see? Let's just go look at the wedding dress..."
Ignoring the pain in her stomach, Tina took Evan's arm. Yet, she failed to hide the slight unease in her eyes.
Evan's POV:
I frowned at Tina's nervous reaction as I realized that something might not be so simple.
"Why are you so nervous?" I asked.
"Huh? I'm not nervous. No, I am just... I just don't want to make a big deal out of it." Tine stammered. Then she put on her usual innocent look and said, "The police officer will take us to the police station. That will certainly cost us hour. After all, the wedding dress is what matters, right?"
I took a deep breath as I looked at Tina grimly. "Tina, did you just lie to me?"
"I didn't. Evan don't get me wrong. Don't believe any of her words. I...I."
"Well, you go ahead!" Anya said, "When the officers get here, let's go to the station together, and the truth will come out. Tina, there are lot of reporter's downstairs. I'm sure if this evidence gets out, people will have their own judgement. After all, that one man is blind or stupid, doesn't mean every man and woman is blind and stupid!"
Hearing her words, I reached for the recorder in Anya's hand. I was desperate to hear what exactly Tina had said.
"Stop the nonsense, Anya. Just give me the recorder!"
Anya slipped the recorder back into her pocket, her lips curling into a sneer. "You will get the recorder later when we are all the police station. The police officer will be there soon. So, what's the rush? Plus, if you destroy the recorder to protect Tina, my evidence will be gone!"
I gritted my teeth and glared at Anya.
I didn't expect that after four years, she had become even more scheming.
Tina's face went deadly pale as if the color was drained from it. Chewing her lips, she looked at me pitifully and said, "Evan, we should stop this madness. We are getting married, remember? Let's not make a big deal out of it in front of the press..."
I shook off Tina impatiently. I hated the most when women played tricks on me. "We are not going to see any wedding dress today!"
With that, I strode and walked out of the conference room without hesitation.
I didn't want to wait for the police to arrive. It would only excite the reporters and give them more stories.
