And The Daddy Is… The Infertile Guy?!

Chapter 62

Chapter 62

Gwendolyn hung her head low as she faced Mamie, her voice tinged with frustration, “This is the fourth time, Mamie. You teamed up with Scott at the alumni gathering to play me for a fool. On the first day of my internship, you stirred the pot, leaving me out in the cold. Then you had Scott cause a scene at the hospital, tarnishing my reputation. And now today…”

“It’s actually five times.” Howard interjected with a dispassionate tone, “Don’t forget the post on the college forum she orchestrated.”

His eyes were like shards of ice.

Mamie felt as though she had plunged into an icy abyss, kneeling in a blinding white snowfield, falling into endless darkness.

“Bitch,” Jeannie exclaimed, her face flushed with anger, “People like her should be behind bars.”

“I’m so sorry, Mr. Chadwick. I’m sorry, so very sorry.”

Mamie was groveling, her forehead nearly touching the ground, “Please, have mercy on

me.”

Howard looked at Gwendolyn, worried she might go soft. A person like Mamie wouldn’t learn her lesson. Given the chance, she’d only come back with a vengeance.

“Mamie. I won’t stoop to your level of revenge, but you must pay for your actions,” Gwendolyn stated calmly, “I will gather evidence and let the law deal with you.”

“Gwendolyn. We were college roommates, how can you be so heartless?” Mamie’s cries were shrill with desperation, “You must have enjoyed watching me make a fool of myself.” “We could have coexisted peacefully, but it was you who kept trying to hurt me,” Gwendolyn replied.

A sense of hopelessness washed over Mamie, as she resigned to her fate, “So what if you’ve got people backing you up? I bet you even had a hand in ruining Scott’s family business. I never imagined I wouldn’t be able to outplay you, Gwendolyn.”

“You’re being so unreasonable,” Jeannie interjected with disgust, “Always looking for a fight. Gwendolyn has no interest in your drama.”

“Get out, and wait for the subpoena from the court.”

Mamie’s heart seethed with rage as she stooped to pick up her belongings and stormed off, her eyes ablaze with fury.

She was not willing to give up, but at that moment, all she could do was take her things

and leave.

The corridor fell silent.

Gwendolyn glanced at Polly and the others, then gently placed her hand on Howard’s wheelchair, “Mr. Chadwick, let me take you back to your room.”

Howard’e face was stern, and he didn’t respond.

Instead, he spoke to Jeannie, “Please clear things up with the school. I’ll recommend that the Bayridge University forum implement a real–name policy. Cliff, take that middle–aged woman to the police station.”

“Right away, sir.”

“No problem, leave it to me. I’ll clear my sister–in–law’s name.”

Jeannie assured her, then handed a thermos to Gwendolyn, “Gwendolyn, please take good care of Howard, Mom made you some soup.”

“Okay, got it.” Gwendolyn took the thermos carefully.

“I’ll be off then, call me if you need anything. You shouldn’t have to put up with any trouble here at the hospital.”

After Jeannie left her with a few words of caution, Gwendolyn held the thermos in one hand and reached out to push Howard’s wheelchair with the other. But Howard had already engaged the automatic drive, and the chair started moving forward, leaving Gwendolyn’s hand hanging in the air. NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.

She caught up quickly and squeezed into the elevator just before the doors closed.

“Mr. Chadwick.” Her heart was pounding like a drum, “Are you upset with me?”

Gwendolyn couldn’t fathom what might be bothering him,

He lifted his gaze, his look cold and piercing, “Gwendolyn, would you really rather be slandered and bullied than tell them that you’re my wife?”
