Branch One Hundred and Eighty Three
“What?”
“You are pregnant” Jessica could not miss the joy in his voice. She did not know what his reaction could be but she did not expect what he just did. He was happy that she was pregnant.
“Are you happy?”
“Aren’t you?”
“I am happy, I always wanted to have a child of my own” It was the truth. She had always wanted to raise her baby in a quiet and peaceful environment while surrounded by loving neighbors. She has never thought of anything extraordinary.
“Why would I not be happy?” he asked when he confirmed she was okay with it.
“Because I did not think you would want a baby”
“Why would you think that?”
“Well because you fought tooth and nail with Dawson every time he brought up a child”
“Well at that time I had not yet realized my feelings for you and I always thought I would have a surrogate bring my blood to this world after the divorce”
Hearing that statement, Jessica did not know how to react to it. He was happy but he always thought of having a child and acted like it was a big abomination every time Dawson brought it up.
“I am so happy,” he said hugging her to himself.
“I am too” she murmured into his body.
“We will have to see Ross tomorrow and them we can break the news to Papa and everyone” She could feel his excrement. It was pulsating through his entire being.
“Sure we have to see a doctor but can we hold on from telling everyone? Can we just tell Dawson and allow others to find out later?”
“Is there a reason you want to hide it?”
“Not necessarily hide it, I just do not want to go through the entire stress of explaining everything to the girls”
“Sure whatever you want,” he said.
Her tummy rumbled and she looked up at him. As soon as their eyes met they both laughed. “I have not yet had breakfast,” she said and his eyes widened.
“It is way past lunch time and you have not yet had breakfast?”
“I was going to have breakfast but it seems like the baby did not like the food I was having because the smell was so nauseating that I almost puked. Also, I had no appetite for any other meal” she explained.
“What do you want to eat? I will ensure to get it immediately” he asked after hearing her talk about how she did not like any meal.
“I do not know, maybe some mangos?”
She had never been a big fan of fruits in general and most especially not mango but seeing she had been craving it for the past few days it must be that the baby was craving that.
Her unintentional mood swings, cravings and menstrual cycle skip finally made sense. She was not just becoming some one who could not control her feelings she was now being driven by another person.
The next day Dawson took Jessica to the hospital to make an official test and when it came back positive he could not control his joy.
“Congratulations,” Ross said when he noticed the big smile on Xavier’s face. He had known the young man a long time and it had not been in his nature to act so happily in public.
“Thank you Doctor Ross” Jessica replied when she saw that Xavier was too lost in his own world to respond to him.
“We will be going to see Dawson now” She tugged on Xavier’s arm and he stood up like a robot being controlled. “Thank you so much Doctor,” she said again as she pulled Xavier out of the room.
“So nice of you to finally think of me and come see me,” Dawson said sarcastically as they made their way into the room.
He was not angry that they were not seeing him because, from the reports of everyone, it seemed like both parties could not pull away from each other and they were seen everywhere together.
He was not angry, the result of the project he started a few months ago was surely yielding an increase. He knew that learning at least someone for Xavier to call a family, in the long run, was the best solution. The doctor had told him again just that morning that he had so little time to be left on earth.
He knew it was time to begin to tie loose ends and try to settle the house. He knew that leaving now meant that Xavier had someone to rely on and not feel lonely. He chose a good one for himself.
“Why are you smiling so much?” he turned to Xavier when the smile he came in with was still the same after they entered. Xavier never came to his hospital room with a smile.
“Can I not smile?”
Dawson cast his eyes on Jessica and her expression showed that she was trying her best to maintain a straight face. “So why is Xavier smiling?” he asked this time facing Jessica.
“I think he has good news to share with you”
“Oh good news, that I love hearing,” he said trying his best to sit upright.
Jessica rushed to help him up with Xavier on her tail. He removed her hand with a murmur. “You do not have to do things like this or else you will hurt your muscles”
“Oh wow,” Dawson commented when Jessica listened to him at once and backed off. Xavier helped him to a sitting position before helping Jessica to sit and then sitting too. Both of them sat beside the bed.
“So the good news?” Dawson asked eager to hear whatever it was that nothing them here. Seeing the smile on Xavier’s face it was obvious that they came to share the news with him.
“Well, Jessica came into the hospital to run some tests” Xavier started and Jessica wondered why he started that way. Seemed like he was aiming to give the man a heart attack.
Jessica swatted his hand gently and he chuckled. “So?” Dawson asked. “Is she fine? Does she need to get treatment? Wait what am I saying? When is she starting the treatment?” he rushed asking questions.
