Branch Nineteen
“Put it there,” Xavier said moving from the doorway and pointing to the table at the corner of the room. The girl dropped it off and glanced at the young lady she was relieved when she saw that she was doing quite well. She bowed and left in a hurry.
Xavier entered the walk-in closet and changed his clothes to his pajamas before coming back out. Jessica watched him in awe as he went about his nightly routine.
He had not finished consoling her yet he was comfortably doing something else.
“Xavier” she called his name quite absentmindedly because she was busy watching him.
He was in front of the mirror. He turned to face her and she looked him in the eye. She has always seen his beauty but this time it shone through. She gulped down the question she wanted to ask him long forgotten in her memory.
Maybe it was the fact that she was heartbroken and lonely or the fact that his attempt at consoling her was the worst technique she had ever seen or the fact that he looked so hot right now, she could hardly tell the reason since her emotions were all jumbled up in her heart but she wanted to jump him and press her lips against his.
“Do you need something?” he asked popping out of her thoughts.
She pinched herself for having immoral thoughts against him. He was her husband why were they immoral thoughts another portion of her mind said.
There are still immoral either way. She should not do so.
“Jessica?” Xavier said her name in a question form as he approached her gently. He was just worried about her.
“Yes,” she answered composing herself.
“You called me?” he asked her and she nodded.
“Do you have something to say?” he asked raising his eyebrow.
“I forgot” she responded looking away before she started undressing him in her mind.
He moved to the table where the food for her was.
“Come eat this,” He told her taking one of the chairs there.
“What is that?” she asked coming down from the bed where she had made her fortress.
“Oats” He answered simply.
“Oats?” she asked confused.
Why did she need to eat oats as late as this?
“This late?” she asked and sat beside him in one of the seats. He pushed the tray closer to her and opened up the lid of the plates. She stared at the nicely prepared oats with the milk in another bowl and different fruits beside.
Rich people sure were different she thought to herself.
“Why oats this late?” she asked putting her spin into the bowl.
She had eaten to her fill at the restaurant but the crying she had done had drained the whole energy she managed to acquire.
“Because I heard from the staff that you didn’t have dinner”
If she didn’t have a conversation with him earlier today, she would be convinced that he care about her. He was a jerk, it was understandable to her why he was suddenly being nice.
“Did you have dinner?” she asked him.
“Don’t worry about me”
Jessica took small bites out of the bowl of oats. She wanted to convince herself that there was no way that Xavier was concerned about her up to the extent that he got her a meal. He was the same jerk that got her riled up all day.
“Finish every last drop,” Xavier said.
Jessica had tried to stop her spoon because she was filled but Xavier whose eyes were closed happened to see her drop her spoon.
“I’m full, why don’t you have the rest?” Jessica asked rubbing her tummy with her hand.
“I don’t eat so late at night” he replied.
“But did you have dinner?”
He had been so busy that he skipped dinner. He even had to leave work without finishing up his work.
“No, I did not but I keep a strict timeline for my meals,” he said standing up and walking toward the bed.
“Finish up the meal,” he said turning to face her before climbing up to the bed.
“As I said before, I’m quite filled so I don’t think I can have any more,” she said also standing up.
She put on the lid back on the plate and walked towards the toilet. Now that she had a meal she needed to brush her teeth again. She quickly did her business in the toilet and entered the closet and changed her clothes to her nightgown.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
She entered back into the room and saw Xavier very cozy and drifting to bed.
“Mr. Delgado,” Jessica said in a soft tone.
Since the incident today, she felt distant from Xavier so she decided to address him formally. After all, she had only a year to spend with him. There was no need for them to get over-familiar with each other. The best status that befits them in their relationship was to treat each other like colleagues.
“Yes?” he answered gently and his voice sleepy.
“I’m going to see your grandfather tomorrow. Anything I should take note of?” she asked.
She didn’t want a repeat of last time. She knew that only a fool made the same mistake twice. Xavier’s eyes flickered open and he raised his head to look at her standing there rubbing hand lotion on her hands.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to go there,” He said.
He was worried she would run into the media body. They all knew that his grandfather was staying at the hospital and what hospital he was in. He knew that they would be there.
“He asked me to come. Don’t worry I would not make the mistake twice. I’m wiser than that. That’s why I asked if there is anything to be mindful of” she jumped to defend herself.
He may be thinking that it is a bad idea to leave them alone but she learned her lesson and would only have him take or eat what was passed by the doctor. If she was unsure she would ask someone.
“It’s not because of you but because of the press. I would tell Papa that you’ll come another time”
“I think it would be okay for the press to see me going to visit him. I also think that he is lonely. Let me go see him” she said.
To his ears, they sounded both like a command and a request at the same.
“I hope it would be okay,” Xavier said giving in.
He decided to give in so as not to offend her. She may be thinking that if he doesn’t give in she might take it the wrong way and that would land him in trouble with her.
He didn’t want to have to go look for the spare keys or have to call the guards to pull down the door at night either.
“I’ll come with you. I think it would be good if we showed up together”
“Anything you say Mr Delgado”
