Chapter 35 Won’t Eat You
“I’m not going to eat you!” Brendon’s voice was particularly low and pleasant amidst the sound of rustling rain. With a strong pull, he forcibly pulled her closer to him.
Ranita’s heart felt like it had been tugged as well.
“Thank you…”
“If your clothes get wet, there won’t be any new ones for you later!” Brendon paused before adding, “Mrs. Cather is a picky person.”
Capitalists were indeed capitalists.
It seemed that he just didn’t want her to ruin Stuart’s Corp’s image.
Ranita pouted slightly, feeling relieved in her heart. Being infatuated and reluctant would only be detrimental to herself in the end.
The location Ranita ordered the taxi from was at the bus stop next door.
Due to the rain, it would take eight minutes for the driver to arrive. Ranita peeked out anxiously waiting for the car, afraid that it might pass by and waste more time.
Suddenly, Ranita heard two eighteen-year-old boys next to her whispering about her.
“Wow! Those legs are amazing!”
“They’re so fair and straight! And she looks really pretty… Should we ask for her phone number?”
“She must be older than us though? Shall we go together?”
As young boys whispered while stealing glances at Ranita, she remembered being young herself and noticed their youthful admiration and amazement in their eyes.
Although it was impolite, Ranita felt that they had no ill intentions. Sensing that Ranita was also watching them, the big boy suddenly blushed shyly but his eyes shone brighter as he eagerly wanted to approach and chat with her.
Just then…
“Click!” The sound of an umbrella opening came from above Ranita’s head. A huge shadow loomed over her, enveloped in the cold fragrance of cedarwood. His shirt brushed against her arm, leaving a faint warmth.
The large umbrella arced through the air like a black petal blocking Ranita’s legs and completely isolating her within its dark canopy.
The man was tall and coldly glanced at the two big boys before reaching out to touch the woman’s shoulder.
“What happened?” Ranita instinctively wanted to step back but bumped into the umbrella with nowhere to go.
What was Brendon doing? Why was he suddenly acting weird?
“Step forward a bit, there’s water on your shoulder!” Brendon found an excuse.
“Oh? Really?” Ranita foolishly agreed and reached out to touch her shoulder only to accidentally brush against Brendon’s hand – warm and hot enough for her heart rate to spike up in surprise.
“I’m sorry!” With lowered eyes, she tried hard to calm down her sudden violent heartbeat. “I didn’t mean it.”
Brendon’s thoughts were all focused on those two little punks nearby who thought they could hit on Ranita even though they were young! Dream on! He flicked off some water droplets from her shoulder while still keeping his large umbrella firmly blocking them both in, “It doesn’t matter… Is our ride here yet?”
Still indifferent as ever…
Ranita inwardly sighed at herself for being so weak-willed!
“Almost here!” Ranita exclaimed, and the car arrived. “Mr. Stuart, this is a regular car, so the environment may not be as good. Please bear with it.”
Brendon pursed his lips, his long and thin lips carrying a hint of moisture. “I don’t seem to be that demanding.”
“Just a routine reminder. I know you’re a very good person!”Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
“Well if I’m so good, why not renew the contract?” Brendon suddenly said something out of nowhere, and it took Ranita a few moments to react.
Why else!
Of course it was to stay away from him and their unborn child! Otherwise she wouldn’t be able to bear the millions of dollars in employment fees paid by Stuart’s Corp every year!
