Chapter 909 A Stroke of Luck
As night fell, when Orion returned, Luna had already arranged everything for Lily Winters, now all that was left was to sign a labor contract.
“Mr. Russo, this is the housekeeper recruited by the domestic service company today. I have personally looked into her information and experience. Do you have any questions or instructions?” Luna brought Lily Winters in front of Orion, officially inquiring his opinion.
Unexpectedly, the next moment, Vivian walked out of the study and shot Luna a fierce look from an angle Orion couldn’t see.
“Mr. Russo, I’ve already advised her. With so many experienced housekeepers to choose from, she picked someone inexperienced. I couldn’t stop her. I’m only looking out for you and the child. Who knew she would be this headstrong.”
Luna watched her perform without a word.
It was Lily Winters who seemed moved by Luna’s willingness to give her a chance, preparing to speak up in Luna’s defense, only to be stopped.
“Why are you still here?” Orion’s cold voice interrupted.
This development was beyond Vivian’s expectations. Shouldn’t he be questioning Luna for not listening? What was this operation, leaving her bewildered.
“I, I, I just happened to have the day off today and came. I’ll help you organize the books and documents in the study,” Vivian stuttered.
Vivian was always confident in herself, believing she could freely enter such occasions. After all, in Orion’s eyes, she was his assistant.
Orion’s tone remained unchanged, indifferent. “You’re a secretary, not a maid. You don’t need to worry about these things.”
But for Vivian, this sounded like a signal of concern for her. Her expression shifted from panicked to joyful in an instant, as she replied cheerfully, “Of course, Mr. Russo, I understand.”
Sometimes, women could understand each other best. In the current situation, Luna knew that Vivian must have misunderstood Orion’s intentions, dreaming of becoming Mrs. Russo in her mind.
“Oh, Mr. Russo, I’ve prepared the housekeeper’s information and put it on your desk. As for this, I will take care of it,” Vivian added.
“No need, it’s fine.”
Orion always trusted Luna’s decisions, even without carefully reviewing the information.
“But Mr. Russo, this housekeeper is inexperienced and seems to come from a poor family. What if she has sticky fingers and something valuable goes missing? Besides, there’s a child at home. If something happens, what will we do?” Vivian urged anxiously.
“And I’ve seen, her husband is disabled. How can she wholeheartedly focus on her work? If something happens at home, it could involve you.”
Throughout the day, Lily Winters had been humiliated by Vivian at least five times, from being called a country bumpkin to now being accused of being unclean. This was not something a policewoman’s wife could endure.
“Miss, I understand if you doubt my professionalism, but you can’t judge me by my appearance or slander me. My husband is a cop, he became disabled while saving someone. I wouldn’t stoop to such deceitful behavior.”
Lily Winters finally spoke up in front of everyone after bottling up her anger all day, her face flushed red.
As the words left her lips, Lily Winters noticed all three were looking at her. She shifted uncomfortably, tugging at her already washed-out top, and lowered her head without saying another word.
Luna quietly moved to her side, patting her shoulder for comfort.
Vivian didn’t expect someone doing household chores to challenge Orion in front of her like this, leaving her speechless.
“It’s fine, stay here,” Orion said, surprising Vivian with his words.
He wasn’t a fool, he wouldn’t listen to Vivian. He believed in Luna, and he believed in her choice of people.
Vivian fell silent, and when they were all quiet, Orion called Luna to accompany him to the nursery to check on the baby.
As their footsteps faded away, only Vivian and Lily Winters remained in the living room, staring at each other, with Vivian’s dissatisfaction towards Lily Winters evident.
Clearly, in this environment, Lily Winters felt uncomfortable, and under Vivian’s scrutiny, she appeared even more uneasy.
Luckily, Vivian didn’t say anything more, just turned around huffily and left the villa.
In the nursery, Orion was cradling the child, softly soothing her, “Star, did you miss daddy today?”
Against Orion’s towering figure, Star looked like a little doll, peaceful in his caring arms. Luna lowered her gaze softly.
Star’s rosy lips slightly pursed.
She looked hungry.
“She might be hungry, prepare some formula for her,” Orion said.
Not getting a response from Luna, Orion looked up, “Luna?”
Luna snapped back to reality as Orion called her to prepare formula for the baby. She nodded quickly, swiftly preparing the formula and handing it to Orion.
“The child is young, don’t rush her feeding,” Luna advised.
Orion actually knew how to care for a child. He hadn’t learned nothing. In the foreign country, he had taken care of the child. If it weren’t for the busy work at the company, he wouldn’t have left the child behind.
With a child, he had to maintain his business and do it well so that his daughter could live comfortably and happily in the future.
Seeing Orion’s infinite love and patience for the child, Luna felt at ease. It was safer for the child to be with Orion than living a nomadic life with her. Being able to stay by her side often was already a stroke of luck.
“Did the child show any signs of discomfort today? I heard Vivian took her out,” Orion asked.
Luna gathered her thoughts and reported everything that had happened today to Orion, but didn’t mention Vivian’s insistence on the housekeeper. At least for now, she didn’t know what Orion thought of Vivian.
After the report, Star was dozing off in Orion’s arms, pacifier in her mouth, seeming to enjoy the moment. Luna’s soft voice was like a lullaby, soothing her.
“It seems she really likes you. Just hearing you talk can put her to sleep,” Orion said, still looking at the child with his head down, his expression hidden.
Gently placing the child back in bed, he reminded, “Take care of the housekeeper yourself, I only have one request, Star comes first in everything.”© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
