The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 79

Chapter 79: Daniel’s Rage

Wendy lanew her son’s capabilities and what he and his brothers were willing to do to protect their family

She could only imagine the unholy vengeance they would unleash on Anya’s attackers.

A small part of her recoiled at the thought, the deeply religious woman abhorring violence and vengeance in all its forms.

And yet… She remembered her daughter–in–law’s prevailing kindness, her generous spirit, and her loving heart.

She felt those who did this deserved it. Anya deserved to have those who had done this to her pay for their crimes in the most extreme way.

“They’ll make them suffer for what they’ve done to you,” Wendy vowed, giving Anya’s hand a gentle squeeze.

She settled back in the chair, her delicate features hardening into a mask of steely resolution.

Protection. Provision. Brutal retribution when the family needed to be avenged. This was her family’s way.

She stroked Anya’s cool cheek with the back of her hand, feeling the whirring of the machines forcing air in and out of her lungs.

The hospital was plunged into chaos as a convoy of blacked–out SUVS pulled up to the emergency entrance. Doors flew open, and a small army of men poured out.

A flustered young nurse quickly appeared, her eyes wide with fear as she took in the scene unfolding around her. “Sir, what’s going on? Why are you locking us down?”

But the hospital director tells her to step back.

George, Daniel’s cousin, fixed the director with an icy stare that brooked no argument. “We will be locking down this wing, director.”

“I know, Mr. Shaw has informed us. The hospital will cooperate.” The director went ahead and ordered it to be emptied.

“This wing is getting a full lockdown. No one gets in or out without authorization. Understood?” The director ordered the medical staff, and they nodded.

The nurse could only nod mutely, scurrying off to follow his orders as George continued issuing rapid–fire commands into his headset.

Within minutes, the lockdown was in full effect, with security guards taking up positions outside every room as confused patients looked on in terror.

Inside the Family Waiting Suite, Wendy stood flanked by an armed guard, her face looking grim with worry. George approached, squaring his shoulders as he prepared to break the news.

“It’s done, Aunty. We’ve locked down the entire wing as per Uncle’s orders. No one gets near this area until Daniel and Uncle get back.”

Wendy’s expression hardened, but she gave a terse nod of agreement. “Good.

Chapter 79 Dunia Rage

Tonight, it seemed no one was safe from the ruthless fury of the Shaw family’s wrath. He could only pray nothing happened to Anya, or else Daniel would really go crazy.

Ray was back home. He leaned back in his ornate leather chair, fingers drummed beneath his chin as he listened to the reports from his associates.

His eyes were cold, holding deep darkness as the details of what was said entered his ears. It was unclear what was going through his mind.

“All is in place,” his right–hand man, Derek, informed him. “The evidence has been planted at both JJS Security and the Greg Corporation’s headquarters. All that remains is to make the anonymous tip to the authorities.”

A faint smile curled Ray’s lips. “Good. See that it’s done promptly. I want the Greg empire brought to its knees.”

As the others filed out, Ray’s eldest son, Michael, remained behind. His expression was one of concern as he studied his father’s hardened features.

“You’re sure the Greg family would not be able to get out of this? If it is done wrong, they will escape.”

Ray’s eyes bored into his son. “Do you think I have gotten rusty? The Gregs brought this upon themselves when they dared make an enemy of our family. What’s been set in motion is more. than justified after what they have done. I am setting this trap myself. The are not getting out of it.”

Michael nodded slowly. “If you’re certain. I just have to worry about meeting up with Daniel in Angelo City then.

Placing an aged hand on his son’s shoulder, Ray raised a brow in question. “You have not had

anything to do with Angelo City in a while; are you sure you have not gotten rusty?” The old man was throwing dogs at him.

“How is that possible?” Michael Snorted. There was no talking to the old man when he knew what he was doing. He had better prepare to meet his son in Angelo City.

Ray drummed his fingers once more as his son departed, smiling to himself.

“Soon the Greg empire will crumble to dust. Get ready to absorb their company. Sell them piece by piece to their competitors.”

Horace Greg paced the floor of his office in a state of panic, a half–empty glass of scotch held in one hand.

How could this be happening? The unthinkable–his life’s work, his family’s generations of fortune– has gone up in flames.

He paused before the floor–to–ceiling windows, glaring out over the capital city skyline. He used to like this view; it felt like he was above everything, but now he felt alone at the very top, about to crash to the ground.

His downfall was here, and he still did not know who was the cause.

The government raid was carried out with proper documentation for both JJs Security and the Greg Corporation until further notice.

The allegations of treason, of selling state secrets to foreign powers, had been leveled at both his companies. It was ludicrous, unthinkable… and yet, all too real.

Horace’s mind raced as he searched for any rational explanation. Any possible sign of any shadowy organization he may have offended to provoke them to this point. But he came up empty.

Everything was going wrong.

Angry, he threw the crystal glass across the room. It shattered against the opposite wall, and the wine pulled on the floor.

Horace collapsed into the plush leather chair behind his desk, cradling his head in his hands as panic and dread hit him over and over again.

“Think, Horace, think!” He hissed at himself through gritted teeth. “Who could be behind this?”

Suddenly, a memory stirred from the depths of his subconscious. A name. He had offended them recently. His daughter, Selene, and his father had been taken by the family. He had barely gotten back. Selene is barely alive. His father was still in their custody.

The Shaws.

With trembling hands, Horace took out his phone and scrolled through the contacts until he found the number of an old friend.

Maybe, just maybe, he could tell him something else. Anything else except the Shaw family.

The line rang once… twice. then was abruptly answered by a gruff, all–too–familiar voice.

“You shouldn’t be calling me, Greg.”

Horace swallowed hard. “James…it’s bad. The government just raided my…

“You pissed off the shaws; what did you expect to happen?” James interrupted his panicked voice with a disgusted snort.

“What’d you do? It seems they are out for your blood.”

Horace felt blood draining from his face. “The Shaws? No, no, that can’t be. Not after they already released Selene to us barely alive. What else have I done?…!

His voice trailed off as snippets of long–ago memories flickered through his mind’s eye- everything that could have gotten them to this point. They had already paid a big price just to get their daughter back. As for his father, he was still missing, and he was not sure if the Shaws would give him back.

“I don’t know what you’ve done,” Warren warned, “but Shaw never forgives, never forgets. If they’re coming for you now, you’re well and truly finished.”

The line went dead, leaving Horace slumped in his chair, chest heaving with each panicked breath as the weight of the family’s crimes came crashing down around him.

Chapter 80: To Face the Music

With an angry roar, he swept his arm across his desk, sending everything clattering to the floor–all the papers, office supplies, and personal effects.

“I won’t let you destroy me!” he howled at the empty office. “Not after everything I’ve built!”

But as the echoes of his outburst faded, Horace felt a creeping sense of dread.
