Richest Mogul 1132
This job opportunity was incredibly tempting for someone who had just lost their job. Skylar glanced upstairs. It was quiet, and Joe was still asleep.
Skylar was also curious about Vera’s true intentions in offering such favorable terms. She said, “If you have something to say, just tell me directly over the phone.”
Vera replied, “It’s better to discuss this in person. You’re not heading to work right now, so you have time, don’t you?”
Skylar raised an eyebrow. “If you can’t say it over the phone, then forget it.”
Even if she had the time, she wasn’t interested in meeting Vera. She just couldn’t bring herself ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
to like her.
“Fine, we can talk on the phone. I want to know if you’re feeling resentful right now. You might have been kept in the dark since the moment you married Joe.
“He has been protecting Lizzie behind your back. Now that he no longer needs you, he’s divorcing you while flaunting his relationship with Lizzie. Don’t you want them to pay for deceiving you?” Vera’s tone was full of indignation.
The implication in her words was that Skylar was the one being deceived. Skylar curled her lips in a faint smirk. “What do you want them to pay for?”
“If you stand up and admit that you were married to Joe and that he abandoned you, it would show everyone that Joe and Lizzie’s fairytale romance is built on the suffering of others. It’s utterly hypocritical,” Vera said.
Her tone was somewhat agitated, even more passionate than before. Clearly, she had seen the trending news today.
The love story between Joe and Lizzie had indeed been packaged as a fairytale, making it seem so desirable. In real life, perfect love was something everyone envied.
Skylar found Vera a bit amusing. “If I really did that, what benefit would I gain?”
“I’ll meet any conditions you propose.” In Vera’s view, she believed that Skylar was on her
side.
Each time this news surfaced, it was like a slap in her face. She had lost her dignity in front of others and even in her own family.
Her parents had criticized her. They told her the decision to go abroad had been a mistake, wasting her time and giving others opportunities to take advantage of her.
Not only were they regretting it, but after Joe’s attitude toward her grew colder with each passing day, her regrets deepened even more.
Even though Molly had made some promises to her, Vera felt deep down that nothing would truly change. Skylar’s situation was nearly the same, so using her to achieve some objectives would make Vera feel more at ease.
It would also show that there was no fairytale story between Joe and Lizzie. A wave of annoyance washed over her whenever she saw their news and stories.
After seeing the news that morning, she hadn’t been able to eat a single bite for breakfast.
“Have you received any negative items recently?” Skylar noticed something was off. Vera’s demeanor today was different from her usual self. It was as if she was lacking rationality.
It reminded her of the last time Vera had suddenly shown up at the mall, babbling nonsensically in front of her and Natalie.
Sometimes, negative items could affect a person’s judgment and reasoning. Vera’s current
state felt all too similar.
Vera replied, “Why are you bringing up negative items? I don’t know what you’re talking about. Just answer me–do you want to expose the truth?”
Skylar frowned. Vera was usually smart, and she had witnessed firsthand the dangers that negative items could bring to herself and her family.
Skylar wondered why she would willingly invite that kind of trouble into her life. She had no intention of continuing this conversation.
“Don’t call me again, Vera. Not everyone in this world is as foolish as you think,” she replied coldly.
Skylar understood what Vera was trying to do. She was trying to use Skylar as a weapon
against Joe and Lizzie. If she could wield it effectively, she could achieve her goals. If not, Vera wouldn’t lose anything either.
